Is your game stuttering even with high end PC?

If you're like me, you refound this gem from your teenage years and you rushed to install it and play it again, but despite the high end computer you've got, it stutters and runs horridly.

Pro-tip: Enable system cursor in the settings, for some reason the default cursor in the game messes up stability alot!

I'm finding this game is running terribly. I can't figure out why. I'll try this.

This only works for a while before it outright crashes without an error message. I guess the game is just getting to old or something. Though others like Empire at War work just fine.

Hey Thanem, good suggestion on the "system Cursor".....it seems to help (at least, at menu; I haven't started a game yet).

(before I read this post) I just finished up a game with a couple of the boys....man, the game ran like ♥♥♥♥.....

My stats: 5600x, geforce 1080, 16gb ram, etc...

The frames were jumping all over the place...I figured it might have something to do with the processor...idk....I used to have a 2600x and it seemed to run ok on that last time I played.

On another note, my buddy switched from "borderless window" to fullscreen and it seemed to help him (his rig is way better than mine - intel processor, GeForce 3080). But he was still having the same FPS spikes/lows...

I had the same improvement for a bit, but then mine went back to ♥♥♥♥. (to be fair, I had other issues in-game, including a ton of textures not loading it)....it was so weird.

200+ hours over many years...never experienced anything like I did this evening with this game.

Well ♥♥♥♥...I just adjusted "Shadow Quality" to High from Extreme....and that seemed to make an IMMEDIATE difference!

Yep; it's running smooth as glass now. I actually jsut went ahead and dropped shadows down to "Med"....b/c who cares; the game is in the black of space! lol

But yeah, it's running amazing now - Definitely checkout that setting!

Cool, will set the shadows to off prob, I am getting that crazy stuttering when I click to move a ship(I would click and set the ship to move then it would pause for a tick then decide to execute the command).
Funny thing is, it didn't used to do that.

Enable System Cursor was the trick...

I have played this game for years. One day It all of a sudden stuttered like crazy. I have decent rig. Same rig that I have used for a long time with SINS. I erased game over and over. messed with settings. Everything but the damn Cursor lol. It works fantastic now.

That is not a known issue, in that there is not many people reporting it.
I have not noticed this happening, even when playing mods. it could be something on your end somewhere (background program, drivers, corrupt file etc)

The game was never able to allocate enough memory to run all of the assets the game can produce in a single match. Want a lag free game? Keep your map small.

Disable hardware cursor in game, problem solved

Will try out the cursor, ran the game before no issue, now stuttering like hell. Removed shadows, turned everything down to medium made zero difference, will try cursor next
