AI cheat?
In my current game I've come to notice that the enemy captial ships level like crazy (had a level 2 kol battle ship with its fleet assault my planet that only had defenses, and those few tec ships everyone gets, and before it got destroyed, it managed to get to level 6 or 7.) and that enemy titans get to keep their level, no matter how many times they were destroyed (sometimes seemt the same with capital ships, i destory a whole fleet and they come back like 15 minutes later, with high level ships). this is fairly frsutating due to no matter what, I've constantly got level 10 titans assaulting me (mainly the ragnoraks), and this is only on hard difficulty.

Is this WAI? I understand its supposed to be challenging, but this is getting on my nerves.

1. Capital ship levels can be purchased (you can do this too).
2. Titans don't lose their level when they die (yours included).

I know the ship levels can be purchased, its that i never known the AI to do it ( ive been playing sins for a good 10 years, and yes, i looked at the aftermath charts most of the time- unless thats changed in Rebellion).

And darn. Was kinda hoping titans didnt keep levels, but then i guess it would make it too easy.
Guess that means i'll have to rethink my frontline (thankfully its only two planets).

But thanks for the reply, Fyst o/

Now that I think about it, I honestly can't remember if I coded the Ai to purchase levels or not. However, it is the case that there is no cheating on ships levels even at the highest Ai difficulty. I'd have to view the replay to see why their ships were at level 6/7.

i found it do be odd on how fast the ship leveled up considering how little ships were in my gravity well.

i have it as part of a replay, i watched it, the kol battle ship went to level 6, i looked away to other planets and came back for it to reach level 7, all under a minutes time.

The AI can and does buy cap ship levels.

Edit : Due to how the AI purchases/builds things, they can actually buy past the "max" buy level (like they do with buying past max ship cap).

I'm pretty sure the very hardest AIs can purchase more levels than a player can, or perhaps just gets free capitalship XP. I will look out for it and put a replay, but I honestly think that's a pretty useful "cheat" in making the AI harder. I personally wouldn't change it even if it is a "bug".

I remember watching them buy multiple levels at a time, like they do with ships. I think they have the same max level buy you do, its just they can bypass it by buying in bulk :D.

Well you made me go look it up which is good because I completely forgot about this:

int PlayerAIDifficulty::GetMaxTrainableCapShipLevelBonus( Enum e )
{
switch(e)
{
case Easy: return 0;
case Medium: return 0;
case Hard: return 1;
case Unfair: return 2;
case Nightmare: return 3;
case Impossible: return 3;
default: assert(false); break;
}
return 0;
}

Heh, awesome! There's a lot about the AI difficulty we really don't know since its not in the game files. I just put this up on the wiki, but if there are any other easy to find values like that I'm sure a lot of people would like to know the exact numbers! http://wiki.sinsofasolarempire.com/index.php/AI_Difficulty

(**Snide modder remark - A lot of us would love to be able to changes these kind of numbers as well, but I understand if that's just a pipe dream at this point**).

well then :/, guess i have to try a little harder then. im fairly slow at building fleets when its vs the ai. i like to keep my economy good till i max upgrades, but seems i may have to balance things more out when dealing with higher difficulties.

i dont suppose you'd be able to look into the previous games (diplomacy, etc) to see if its the same? i used to play vs hard ai on a regular basis and never seen it do this. ( i mean, i guess its nice the ai has a little more to its 'i' but this caught me by surpise)

The Hard AI only gets an extra level, and often they do not research the tech that lets you get another trainable level, so that's really just leveling the playing field.

I'm not a DEV but I'm guessing the numbers haven't been touched since the harder difficulty levels were added (that was a core feature of either Entrenchment or Diplomacy IIRC).
