Max Payne 3 causing BSOD
Installed Max Payne 3 and after it did its DirectX install, my computer BSODs every 5 minutes. I ran safe mode just fine. I did a system restore to before I ran MP3 for the first time which makes it install its DX11 update and I'm not having BSODs anymore. Why the ♥♥♥♥ was my computer ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ its pants after running MP3? This happen to anyone else?

Pretty ♥♥♥♥ed up because I run BF3 max and that game is more demanding than MP3.

I had a few myself, until I limited the game to dx9 mode. It's definitely a problem with the game. It's just another crappy Rockstar port.

You saw my profile, so you saw my game library too right? Take a guess how many of them cause BSOD on my machine. Just one. This one. Game is at fault. Nothing else. Case closed.

Every game's forum has one apologist. I just don't get it. You're not ganna listen to any logic, so what's the point? Defend Rockstar. You are in the clear minority there.

And JoCo? Never been, but I'm curious where you learned to repeatedly talk to yourself in your own profile like a sociopath. That's endearing.

To be clear, I completely understand that it's the hardware that is failing. But my point is that if only one software out of hundreds is causing the issue, the software is to blame. The more complex a piece of hardware is, the more vulnerable it is to things like this. Max Payne 3 is a poorly coded piece of ♥♥♥♥ just like every Rockstar PC product, and it is doing SOMETHING that is out of the ordinary when communicating with the video card, to cause these BSODs. I'm not going to congratulate Rockstar for finding and exploiting a flaw with hardware, because it's in everyone's best interest that the ♥♥♥♥ing product just works.

As far as I am concerned, when I run stress tests of my CPU, RAM, and GPU for hours, and I get no BSOD, yet a silly video game does, that game is at fault and Rockstar should have bug tested the damn thing on every possible hardware combination, especially considering the insane development time and budget they had.

I forgot to even mention that it also BSOD on my friend when we played COOP, and his system doesn't have a single similar part to mine, and he also doesn't get BSOD in any other games.

I dunno what universe you live in but nvidia and ati dont care about fixing issues with games that are over a month old.

The only time I ever see either of them fix an issue with an old game, it's always like "Fixed jagged fonts on 1080p resolution with anti aliasing set to 4x or higher". Nothing noteworthy.

Well, BSOD for me as well. And as I never get a BSOD I blame the game.
Uninstalled.

I squared it away. I just canceled the DirectX install when you launch the game for the first time. I've been playing fine since at highest graphical settings, no sweat. Thanks everyone.

I'll try that, i reinstalled my DX with another game let's see if that was enough.

yes, that seems to have done the trick, had a bsod after 1hour of gaming, and 0 bsods after dx reinstallation and finished the game clean.

Had my first bsod with this game. Have not played it since i added a 2nd gtx 680. This was the first game i tried out. Though the new card was bad, but after trying out many other games nothing else had 1 single issue.
