[id5Tweaker] Change FPS Limit, Force CVars And More
What Is this?

This is a discussion thread for the id5 Tweaker. You can find it along with additional information as a Steam guide here or on PCGamingWiki here[community.pcgamingwiki.com].

The id5Tweaker is a small mod that allows additional configuration of id Tech 5 games. Its features include the option to change the FPS limit, force the value of CVars and additional game specific settings.

Description

Although the id Tech 5 engine offers a surprising amount of flexibility in regards to configurations through its CVar system, it is inconvenient to use because some CVars won't be saved, are restricted or have too narrow bounds (e.g. the FOV in the Wolfenstein games).

Additionally, there are some problems that can't be fixed by CVars at all, such as the limit of 60 FPS. While there are some methods out there which supposedly should unlock the FPS, they don't seem to work or ceased to work after the games were patched.

This mod aims to make the overall configuration easier while at the same time to offer additional options for certain problems. The mod is used through a set of new console commands which can either be directly entered into in the in-game console or applied by using an optional config file. The Tweaker can change the FPS limit, force restricted CVars without having to use workarounds such as the cvaradd command and push some CVars out of their bounds. It also offers some game specific options.

Features

All Games
  • Change FPS limit
  • Force restricted or read-only CVars
  • Push some CVars out of their bounds (e.g. FOV)
  • Bind opening the console to any key
  • Bundle configuration in a single config file
  • Easy to install
RAGE (32-/64-Bit)
  • Bind the use of items to individual keys
  • Bind toggle versions of aim down sights or sprint
  • Disable parts of the HUD (e.g. crosshair or minimap)

I tried this out after trying the other methods failed me, this mod so far has been working great. 110 Fov and 144 fps makes a big difference for me. Thanks a lot for this. I can see you put a lot of time into this, hopefully more people see this cause a game like this deserves to run at modern frame rates. I would've expected better from idtech honestly. Capping at 60 for a PC First-person Shooter is unjustifiable.

Thanks, soon as I get home I`ll try it on Wolfenstein and give you my feedback.

Thank you both. It is nice to see people are trying out the mod. I'm really looking forward to hearing from you how the mod performs and whether you encounter any problems.

I'm getting a weird artifact flashing on the whole screen. It happens as you look up climbing up a building. Any ideas?

That sounds strange. Does the problem go away when you disable the FPS unlock? And could you maybe post a screenshot or video?

Did any of you by any chance play a little bit more?

Thanks dude, works great!

Im having an issue on Wolfenstein: The New Order where the first cutscene slows down to a near freeze that maxes out my cpu usage. in about 30 seconds the game starts working normally again.

Thank you for the bug report. I'm always glad to see people providing feedback. I'll look into this issue when I have the time.

Did you encounter any other problems thus far?

Thanks dude. Wanted to refund TNO but now I'm actually having fun.

Something I noticed is that mouths and subtitles are out of sync with the audio. This is annoying when reading the subs of the German dialogue.

Could you elaborate more on how they are out of sync? Do the mouth animations and subtitles play too fast and are over before the audio?

Subs lag behind of the audio: I'm reading dialogue that has been said some seconds ago.

I assume this is also the issue with the mouths, but that is harder to verify since I can't lipread that well.

Alright, thanks you. I appreciate the feedback. I'll investigate this once I have the time.

Thank you so much for this but I'm also having the issue with the first cuscene dropping to about 0.1 fps.

Thank you for the feedback. Please let me now if the problem occurs in other cutscenes as well.
