Before the Echo now available for Mac and Linux!
Out of NOWHERE, right?! Huge thanks to Ethan Lee for rocking his FNA implementation for Before the Echo, making this game available to connoisseurs of fruit and arctic birds everywhere.

I also wrote a silly press release. Enjoy!

Before the Echo comes to Mac and Linux with literally no warning whatsoever

Only seven people worldwide saw this coming, apparently

LOS ANGELES, CA, October 14th, 2015 – Iridium Studios, developer of the critically acclaimed Before the Echo and There Came an Echo, is proud to announce its first title, Before the Echo (formerly “Sequence”) is now available for the Mac and Linux platforms. It’s possible that they were recently inspired by that new Steve Jobs movie, or just happened to recently find a programmer who was good at this stuff. It’s a mystery, really.

“Our studies show that nearly four years after initial release is the optimal time to release ports of an indie game,” said Jason Wishnov, CEO of Iridium Studios, clearly indicating he does not know how studies work. “Now the vast hordes of fans, tired from their long years of chanting and summoning eldritch horrors in attempts to appease us, may finally go home and grab a nap.”

Before the Echo is a combination of a rhythm game and an RPG, featuring an 8+ hour story mode, over ninety minutes of voice acted dialogue, dozens of spells, and hilarious puns. It features 25+ tracks from phenoms Ronald Jenkees and Michael Wade Hamilton, and currently has an 86% positive user rating on Steam.

For more details about the game, you can visit Iridium Studios’ website at www.playiridium.com. If your website or media outlet is interested in interviews or additional information, please contact Iridium Studios directly.

This is awesome! I started up Steam to find that there was an uninstalled game in my SteamOS + Linux library. It wasn't even a free weekend title, or other such clutter, but a game that actually belongs in my library. Thank you for the great work and continuing to support this wonderful game!

Just wanted to stop by and say thank you for supporting our beloved operating system :steamhappy:

You're quite welcome = D
I've tried to install this game a few times since it came out on linux, every time I'm getting a "missing executable" error. Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?

I would recommend doing a "Vertify Cache Integrity" from the Steam library, or a full delete local content and reinstall. (Right Click on Before the Echo in your library to do it!)
I've actually done both, and also for an unrelated reason re-installed steam completely. Any other ideas? I would be happy to provide more details if necessary

Well...can you actually find the executable? Should be in your local Steam directory/SteamApps/common/ThereCameAnEcho. If it's there, what happens when you directly click on it?
Sorry for the slow response, I've been quite busy with school and work.

I checked the properties for Before the Echo, and there, it says "Disk usage: none". When I click "Browse local files", it takes me to a directory called SteamApps/common/Sequence (not ThereCameAnEcho), and that directory is completely empty. When verifying cache integrity, it just says that everything is valid without downloading anything.

Here's a screenshot of all this:

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Edit: Just to be clear, there is no ThereCameAnEcho directory at all in my SteamApps.

To be frank, I've...never seen this. I've seen corrupted/invalid local content, but never a *literally empty directory* that Steam somehow thinks is okay. I would note that "Sequence" is still the internal name of Before the Echo...it was changed earlier this year due to legal reasons. But that can't be the issue; the game is confirmed working on plenty of Linux machines.

Things I'm just randomly thinking of trying:

- Setting Steam's default downloading location to another folder/drive
- Making sure you're not booting from a Linux boot CD or something weird
- Making sure other Steam games are downloading/installing correctly
- Firewall settings?

I don't know. This is super super weird. >.>

If you still can't manage anything, shoot me an E-mail at iridium@playiridium.com. I might be able to give you the files directly.

It's doing this for me as well. The only weird thing about my setup is that I'm running the Gentoo distro, but it works just fine for most games. Sometimes I have to monkey with things a bit, but this is the first time I've seen this with a game that's supposed to have a Linux build.

According to steamdb.info, there are no files in the linux depot, could this be the cause of these issues?

No, we just checked both the depots for Mac and Linux, and despite what SteamDB shows, both are active and full of all relevant files. I can double check the Linux build tomorrow, but the Mac version is currently downloading fine...

Can confirm the bug on Ubuntu, the directory is completely empty. This isn't the first game I've seen this happen, but it's also the exception rather than the rule.

We think we've isolated the cause of the issue, here. Give us a little bit!
