Way to save Work in Progress designs?

Im having a lot of fun meticulously designing the sprites for my ships, even with the clunky UI, but seeing as it takes quite a lot of time, im wondering if there is a way to save work in progress designs?

Additionally, i just had a design for a BB work in progress, and i accidentally clicked outside of the ship design window on the main game, and the window disappeared. Id spent almost an hour on that design and was almost done, im really hoping that i didnt just delete all that time with a single accidental click outside of the window... Ive not touched anything since the click, is there a way to pull it back up?

You can use the "Export ship design" button on the "Ship design/Graphics" tab to save the design and then use the "Load ship design" to reload the design later. This should work at any stage in the design process.

As for the disappearing design window, it is probably hiding behind the main game screen. Move the game to the side and you may see the design screen back there.

You can also save the ship design but click 'No' when it gives you the choice to send it to the design bureau. The design can be retrieved by clicking the Load Design button in the design screen at any future point (just make sure you remember the name of the design). As a bonus, since the design hasn't been finalised yet any future tech improvements (background ones, like weight reductions etc) will be applied when you load it.

I'm afraid that one might just close itself if you click outside it.

Didn't that go away / change with the new ship saving system? I might be misremembering, it's been a while since my last game drew to a close.
