Looking for a good mod or mods.
Unfortunatly i do not like TL2. The lack of skills adversly affects my personal feeling of advancement. While i hate to put D3 on a pedastal (so many flaws that its not too much fun), the skill system in that game is far better becuase it feels like your actually progressing and getting actual, better skills. It adds flavor to the game that is sorely lacking in TL2's character progression.

The tier system on tl2 spells is extremely bland and feels VERY unrewarding to say the least

I am mainly looking for something that adds a much wider veriety of skills and spells to the game, something that will help me feel like i am actually getting better stuff instead of "OH MAN 31 POINTS INTO FIRAHAMMA OF FIRENESS" if you know what i mean. Using the same 2 or 3 skills the entire game is just not fun.

I am NOT looking for a "I AM BECOME GOD!!!11!!1!!11" style skillset of uberpowered stuff. (i only bring this up becuase a friend of mine on vent instantly called me a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for wanting gamebreakingly powerful spells when i gave him the VERY same description i wrote here.)

And now for the obligatory: No, the spell scrolls you find dont count. They are a nice thing to have, dont get me wrong. But they are spells that should have fallen onto the characters to begin with. It adds an artificial and lackluser semi-veriety of skills. It feels like a stop-gap measure to try and add more stuff in so people FEEL like they have more things to use than just the 2 skills they are pumping points into.

For me, the best part of playing rpgs is a combination of story and character development. No, im not one of those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who played d2 using an excell spreadsheet. I just like the feeling that my character is actually becoming a better character by having an expanding skill tree with more than 6 spells in a tree.

well if your that turned off by vanilla might want to try Synergy by Salan.. it adds a Necro class and alters a great deal.. its a conversion. makes the game more difficult while allowing the player to really fine tune thier character the way they want. you can also choose maps to truly test your skills against and onslaught of asswippin.
that being said TL was never intended to be DS or NWN.. it was a casual rpg for simple hack and slah loot fest dungeon crawling and TL2 just adds to that same general idea. turn on hard and load the mod.. if that doesnt do it your pretty much screwed. :)

Synergy is the only mod that changes gameplay significantly out there, I found that in early levels, high level drops were way too common, but it got reaasonably better, adds a lot to the game, it's worth a shot, it's the best you'll find till GUTS is released (hopefully that's soon............)

Thank you both for your replies :)

I tried Synergies, but its not really what i want. I do love the added class though.

My ONLY issue with TL2 is the serious lack of character development in terms of skills. There are 6 skills in 3 trees for a total of 18 abilities, and many of those are just passive buffs.

I want many abilities, like 20 per tree with unique attributes. I just cant stand the fact that you pretty much have to pick 1, maybe 2 attack talents and mostly stay with those the entire game. It makes everything feel bland and boring. I want many different abilities to choose from.

Diablo 3 gave me that choice for more abilities. Limited skills but runes that change them. theres what, 18 base skills, and each has 6 to 9 runes which change its base effects. That was the only redeeming factor for D3 though, the rest of the game was mediocre at best. But having so many options to change your skills, change how they act, damage and damage type. It added a lot to the character customization, atleast until endgame.

Ive been looking around and cant find anything.. i have a feeling its probably going to take a long time for any mods like what i want to come out. :(

Wait for GUTS, there will be an explosion of mods, don't trade it yet. Once it comes out though, I'm sure there will be many new characters, skills, etc.

I have pretty high hopes for mods for TL2 :) just need to be patiant i guess.

Also, is GUTS the editor that Runic promised a long time ago would launch with TL2?

They promised TorchED would come soon after the launh, they didn't promise GUTS, the most recent update said they were working on the lobby making it easier, and working on tutorials, and I think that was about two weeks ago, so hopefully they'll release it soon.

Nice :) Ill have to check out GUTS eventually, maybe make the mod myself. Havnt done game modding in years though, not since i helped work on Eastern Sun for diablo 2 many many years ago.

Where do you go to download the mod Synergies? Because i am looking to spice up my torchlight 2

Ya its gonna have to be a wait for a mod deal for it.. TL2 was following the same lines as TL its not meant to very complex in the character development area.. mostly just a fun hack and slash type experience. I'm sure when torched gets released you'll see everything but the kitchen sink.. hey.. someone remember that and make a 2H mace called "the Kitchen sink" heh

I'm gonna have to agree with you. I didn't feel like I was really developing my character that much.

I think TL2 is based more around the loot than the character customization, there is very unique loot that you can find to suit your character, and again, there will be plenty of mods to improve character progression I'm sure.

Get Titan Quest. Feels like a freaking infinite number of skill combinations because you can choose 2 classes. LOOOVED that game. This one is great too, but I will go back to Titan quest when I get bored of it.

I did play titanquest and i really loved the choices with skills and such, but its big drawback was the game became stale at the start of act 2. Felt like it was mimicking Diablo 2 to the T. same general scenery for each area. I stopped right around there on the characters i tried. Also it seems the dificulty curve jumped WAY up around that point as well.

Ill have to give it another go until TorchED is out.

If you want complex and and in depth character developmentthan try PoE, you will not find a more complex character development in any arpg out there.
