Having trouble finding a class I enjoy
Torchlight II is an amazing game, for sure, but I am having an issue. While the original hooked me in with the Destroyer and Vanquisher just being fun classes to play, I sort of find the classes in Torchlight II stale and uninteresting. If I am going to play a hack and slash game, I have to -love- the classes. I've beaten the game with an Embermage after stopping 2/3 of the way with an Outlander because it just wasn't fun. Are there any builds you guys have noticed have been ridiculously fun to use? Or perhaps any good mods which overhaul the current classes?

Thanks!

glass cannon Berserker = pure fun. play TL2 like a damn Kratos from God Of War :)
dies a lot though, because equipping a shield and/or a more tank-like build takes the fun out of this fast-and-furious class.

What kind of build with the berserker? I tried it in the Beta and didn't really enjoy levelling it. The problem I think is that there are plenty of fun max-level builds but I am having difficulty finding one that is enjoyable to level with for me.

a glass cannon Zerk is mainly Hunter skill tree and passives. with stats going between Dex and Strength, and zero to Vitality.
100% fast, running, jumping, skull-crushing offense.
God Of War: the RPG.
add things like Savage Rush from the Shadow tree, to connect with your inner-wolf - and you're all set.
don't play this build on Elite though. frustrating as hell.

Alright - I'll give it a shot. What kind of weapon would you say I should use with it? dual-wielding was always a favorite of mine in the original.

I've already beaten the game on Elite so I'm not too concerned about difficulty.

I think the Engineer, cannon build, I can't remember where I got the build from, but its really fun,

found it

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/538.389846-Choosing-a-path-for-my-Cannon-Engineer-Torchlight-2-The-Marine-Solved

last post, I been using this build, and its seriously powerful and maybe a tad OP, but cannons are very powerful with cannon blast as your main attack, mana regen shouldn't be touch much of a problem if you got the healbbot at high levels, and keep cannon blast at 1, until; you get some mana regen sockable items, don't bother putting points points in focus, (I only did a few, 5 I think) Dex at 50 points, then a 3 strength 2 Vit after that, cannons are a bit rare, but once you got a decent cannon, it should last, until you fine another, if you put put points in heavy lifting, then the attack speed is awesome

I was doing a sword and shield engineer, but prefer the cannon build a lot better, so if you follow the guide you won't go to far wrong and its a great class to play

weapons? dual anything really: dual hammers. dual axes. dual swords.
but the most fun I had was dual claws. makes a lightning-fast attack even faster, for the price of hitting just one thing in one swing.

and I didn't say Elite was too hard for you. I beat it also. on Hardcore.
but the thing is, you need defense in Elite. Vitality. armor. resists. evasion. blocking. damage absorbtion if you are Engineer. life regen if you are Outlander like me.
boring stuff :)

glass cannon Zerk gives you nothing of that. just pure offense + some evasion and life-steal in higher levels with the right gear.

Sword and shield Engineer does sound interesting, though I'd really like to avoid Healbot and such. I played one to max level in the beta and found it ridiculously overpowered. Is there a good Engineer equivalent of a dual-wield sword build, or even an offensively oriented sword and shield build which doesn't make use of lots of sustained buffs?

Right - sorry, I meant that I don't really feel like playing Elite again because it is exactly what you said, just stacking defense and such. So, if I play another build I don't care about its viability on Elite anyhow =p

My first time Torchlight II (never played the first), I played with an outlander(f). Took me 24 hours to beat the game on a normal difficulty, including all sidequests. I made the mistake of trying to be versatile by having a claw/sword & a gun. Midway through, I used all guns. It was fun.

AOE Enginer is pretty cool, might be tough against champions and bosses sometimes, but all other incoming armies and hordes are downed within two - three AOE Attacks :D

So far I have used Outlander with a bowusing that Shadow Shot that releases homing splinters. I focus mostly on passives that release the Nether Bats and keeping them sustained. I release that shot rapidly in crowds and seean explosion of bats flying everywhere. I focus mostly on offence, so I am borderlined glass cannon. I rely on producing bats to tank me from groups. I hated Outlander till I tried this.

In case you're still wondering about what build you want: if you want to try Engineer, whatever you go for, DON'T skimp on the medic bot, but don't set it as your active skill(put it in the numberpad instead). Regardless of the difficulty, this little healing robot helps out SO MUCH, and he only gets better with upgrades, being able to heal your Mana as well, and giving you boosts to Armor!

If you play outlander, invest points in the hex that pushes monsters away then make a glass cannon build for offense dmg and venom exploding enemies. The hex keeps the mobs off while you turn them into exploding gobs of poison. Really quite fun.

You could always try going through and beating the game with an unpopular build. Personally I wanted to see how far I could get through as a berserker using solely passives, stormclay, and one point in that first tier shadow skill for mobility. I got to the alchemist and was surprised. Try the funkier builds. Think of how you want to play and then choose a class and build accordingly rather than looking at the classes and thinking of which one you want.

It's more like going to the ice cream shop and thinking "Hrm, I want something sweet but also savory." instead of "Give me the strawberry with chocolate sprinkles."
