Walkthrough for XCOM?
I started XCOM recently. It's an awesome game. But I ended up on 122 days before admitting to the defeat first time. It was quite some run. Any suggestions how to pull off a better run? Thanks. Advise at will.

Watch some let's play on youtube? There are hundreds of them out there, for whatever difficulty and play style you might imagine.

Overwatch is your friend
Take your time on most misions there is no timelimit cept for getting meld..
Even though the doc will yell at you use those nades and roket launchers = D
What to research well..
It depends on your play style and your country you start in but normally i get carapace armor asap then precision lasers.
ALso make sure every nation that has a sat has jets to defend and at least 2..
Give me more info on the problem and i may be able to help more.

"Walkthrough" really depends on your difficulty setting. A single grenade will kill a sectoid on normal, but NOT on impossible. Overwatch from sectoid will never one-shot on normal — but can one-shot on impossible. Etc, etc, etc.

Ironman or not is also a game-changer — many actions make perfect sense if you use saves, but are way too risky if you play on ironman.

Become a fan of Beaglerush on Youtube. He's funny, he's Aussie, and he is REALLY good at XCOM. Last I checked his Steam profile he had more than 1200hrs recorded for the game.

NOTE: Beagle plays XCOM Enemy Within with the Long War mod which makes it much harder, but you'll still undoubtedly learn if you watch some of his material. Long War makes the game harder but it gives you many more ways to do well--it makes it a completely new game and I could never go back.

Cool. Keep it up! Actually I play games like Dota 2 , Hearthstone and perhaps FPS literally so it's kind of fresh to me. But all this comments are awesome.

I was tempted to give advice on how to play. then I lost like 4 countries in month 3 by a frigging day. and was crying. Pretty sure its under control now. using high stakes and it just wasn't giving me engineers and New economy and no decent money either.

also I started in South america because I'm usually trying for 'a continental fellow'

Don't generally have trouble if I start in Asia...or even Europe. or Africa, or North America. but South America, I apparently lose alot of countries unless its nice to me.

EW advice:

Research MELD first thing, make a cybernetics lab, make a MEC out of a Heavy. The difference this makes is ENORMOUS. Body Shield is a tremendous aid. Kinetic strike module.

Takes 8 days.

after that You want Alien Materials. this allows you to make Nano Fiber Vests, which you get council requests for, had some council offering 5 engineers for 2 or them. you get a foundry up, and Tactical Rigging, you can stick them on and its ALOT quicker than Carapace. which you should also eventually get and stick on. But I normally hike around to lasers first. precision lasers which is a very long walk.

Try to get scientists first abduction and a experienced soldier second abduction. if you get one of those things from a council mission get engineers instead.

try to get 2 sats up month 1, and another 3 in month 2 and 3. if you can't you'll probably lose countries. after the first month take abduction missions to minimize panic in places you can't save with sats.
