Mac version game crash before the game starts up
I've played through the main storyline of my Mac copy of Arkham Asylum GOTY viz Steam client without issue until a few weeks ago. I hadn't made any changes to my system (15" MacBook Pro Retina August 2012, i7 2.6GHz, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB, OS X 10.9.1, 500GB SSD) during this time, including system updates. I've even enjoyed using a wired XBox 360 controller with this and plenty of other games, so I don't think it's that (I tried starting the game without the controller connected).

I tried starting the game up, but was greeted with a very long error message, stating that my game had quit unexpectedly (I'll add it at the end of this post).

Can anyone help me figure out what's going on, please? I've loved playing this game, but I just can't find an explaination as to why this is happening!

Here's the top part of the error:

For those who tried this to fix your steam game and did not succeed, try looking in Library, Caches, then find a folder called com.feralinteractive.bmac, inside this folder you will find com.plausiblelabs.crashreporter.data, delete this folder. I got a little confused because there is the same folder in Caches. Delete the one in com.feralinteractive.bmac and it should run fine.

Have you verified the local game cache ?

When I first ran into the problem, yes. I just tried it again and the verification came back with 1 failed file, which was reclaimed. I verified again and all files were successful, so I tried to run the game, but the same thing happened again.

Feral Interactive got back to me about this problem. Here is the fix they sent me (it worked):

"It is believed that this problem may be related to some downtime in the Steam service. The issue may have been caused because Steam was offline when the game was checking for DLC or syncing saved games.

Please try the following steps to see if the issue can be worked around:

- Go to Macintosh HD/Users/[username]/Library/Caches/com.feralinteractive.bmac (please see http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/22/access-user-library-folder-in-os-x-lion/ if you are not seeing your user Library as it is hidden in recent versions of OS X)
- Delete the folder named 'com.plausiblelabs.crashreporter.data'
- Relaunch the game"

This procedure did not work for me, is there anything else that can be done?

Not to my knowledge. Feral Interactive would be the best source for a fix. They were prompt and happy to help me. If you're getting an error message, I would copy it to a text file or Word doc just in case they need any more information. You may have a slightly different problem.

Also, what are your computer specs? That could possibly cause your issue.

I really hope this is at least somewhat helpful, and that you get your game up and running again.

Thanks Nsantosphoto for sharing that solution. It worked for me as well. And the cause in my case was also starting the game when I was not connected to Steam.

I would suggest contacting Feral Interactive directly and explaining that this fix didn't work. Since they programmed the game for the Mac, they would be able to figure out what's keeping this fix from solving your problem. I hope this helps!

Are you unable to access your Library in Finder? If so, try using the Go to Folder command from Finder and search for ~/Library
