What do you meant "not thought through"?
I hate many things, and yet I have to get used to them. Don´t you do anything you hate?
Don´t you pay bills even though you might hate it?
What is the matter with you?
Way more difficult you mean
you're not exactly making a good point. You're comparing paying bills to a game mechanic? He's not wrong about the mechanic not being thought through. The game tells us the monster hates light yet he comes out with the lights on anyway and is lured by light. It's like saying "he's allergic to vegetables but he can eat broccoli" he's still eating a vegetable. "The ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate's light" but he still comes out and light makes him investigate it. If he hates light why is light the thing that draws him out? How is coming out of hiding while the lights are on? It's clearly not thought through. If we're told he hates light we should be safe with light. The generator doesn't stay on for very long so it's not like it'd be unbalanced. At least we'll have time to examine our surroundings and check things out without him harassing us. Fuel is rare enough and hard to find as it is. I can't find anymore and the generator is out of power.
He comes out from the slightest sound. If a trap starts a fire he comes out. If I yell from being lit on fire he comes out. If I so much as JUMP he comes out. I see alot of people saying his ai is predictable but I can't predict him at all. One minute he's walking around one room and when I go somewhere else he's in the walls already. He comes out whenever.
His ai is no better than alien isolations
He investigates flares. He investigates fire. Even if lights are on he comes out. I go to the prison and I hear him walking around. No matter what he just keeps coming out. The slightest noise makes him come after me. It's getting on my nerves. I can't get to maintenance cause of a fire grenade trap and if I jump over it he hears it and even if I do get over the trap I cant get past the rats cause I havent found the code to the locker with the lighter so I cant make torches to scare the rats. I got no fuel so the monster is more active, I can't go anywhere without him coming to kill me and I cant progress cause I can't find the dogtag for the item I need to continue the game. I'm completely stuck and it's all because of that annoying damn monster. He's completely unpredictable. He just does whatever tf he feels like. Some noise he investigates and most others he just comes out or ignores.
He went from scary to just annoying
And if you have no fuel, that means the he will be out and about more often in the darkness. If you find him too much of a hindrance, just toss grenades or gas grenades at him or shoot him if you have the supplies, since he will retreat for a certain amount of time and let you get on with whatever.
I never experienced him wandering about without me making noise, you were probably running about and not walking. Plus, if he detects you in say the hub and starts chasing you, he'll keep chasing you or be active when loading into another area.
Even if you haven't got the lighter, there are other ways of temporarily dealing with the rats such as Pouring fuel on the bodies and lighting the puddle on fire with a flare or bullet to burn them, blowing them up, using meat, gassing them away etc, I suggest use meat because in the cheese room there is just a big supply crate with meat that you can use to distract them with or simply using a combination of methods above that I listed. And even if that doesn't work, there is even a shortcut around the rats via tossing a grenade through the bars of the door leading into the chapel and pillbox area to blow up the lock on the other side if you get the right angle and a bit of luck with the grenade blast being in the vicinity of the lock's hit box. This allows you to skip the rats entirely.
Well he is a hindrance. The room I find him active the most is the prison. I went there for the first time, just casually walking and when I get in there I hear him growling and footsteps. I was out of there in a heartbeat. Usually when I return to the prison I hear him walking around.
Also why in the world would I stop to throw a grenade an an immortal monster that moves faster than the grenade could explode? By the way running from him only makes things worse. A trap went off and he can come out of any hole from the one behind me or the one in front. The fire blocks one way and he blocks the other. He's a pain.
I figured I could use the meat I found but when I went to try it he heard me jump over the trap. I triggered the trap on purpose cause he walked into fire before (which was pretty funny) and I figured he would do so again and run away but he went around and I could hear him gaining on me so I just quit to reload cause I knew I was dead.
But it was funny cause I went to the prison and forgot about the door that has the fire trap. The idiot actually came out of the hole in that room with the fire. I ran out of fear but then I could hear him roaring in pain. I couldn't believe he actually did that. He screwed himself there
He probably is only on foot in the prison due to the screaming prisoner who does alert the monster.
I dunno what else to say other than just trigger the trap and run back to the safe room or get far enough that he will still be occupied by the trap burning, he should just go back into the walls that way. He gives you plenty of time to just make a beeline back to the safe room while he has been alerted to the trap before he actually comes out.
Plus, he is actually slow at turning corners, so just run from him all around to lose him. Using the grenade requires timing depending on where he is and whether or not he is already chasing you, if he has just spotted you and is making his roar animation, that is the time to throw. If not, just time it. Or just shoot bullets him, gas him etc.
And if there is a tripwire in front of you and he's behind you, jump over it. If its a door, then just run somewhere else.
Dunno what to really say about this other than you were screwed.
Good for you, I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah I figured that prisoner had something to do with it. I bet if I open the cells the monster is gonna go after him immediately.
I dunno, isnt the monster fast? I thought you're not supposed to run from him cause he can easily catch up. The trailer made it pretty clear turning your back to him and running is guaranteed death
and yeah I know I was screwed. I'm ALWAYS screwed. He's everywhere. Cant avoid traps without him showing up. Even if I do get to the maintenence room how am I gonna get out? The rats will just come back, he would no doubt follow me and even if he isnt the rats will surely kill me before I can go around them. If I try a flare it sets the floor on fire and the monster comes. Either way i'm screwed without the damn lighter but I havent found the code.
If you really are struggling to get past the rats, use the method I mentioned of throwing a grenade through the bars of the metal door leading into the other pillbox section guarded by the tunnel rats to blow up the lock on the other side. I don't know what angle you need exactly, but it is possible with a bit of luck of the grenade physics. But if it works, it allows you to avoid the rats altogether.
I only got two bullets. Also I remember a note saying if you shoot the monster he just comes back angrier and I didn't want to find out what he's like if he's pissed off.
Also what metal door? What are you talking about?
The metal door is through here down the stairs:

The door:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3014678923
Throw a grenade while backed up to the wall completely and aim at this angle in which it goes through the bars and hopefully it blows the lock up on the other side:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3014678412
And if that doesn't work, you can just tank the damage of the rats and heal yourself on the other side, than go to the other side of the door and shoot the lock off that way which will allow you a shortcut back.
So, just as a little confirmation. On my 1st playthrough I used the lighter to get through the rats, and not this method. I tried it a bunch of different times using the angle in the screenshot but the grenade never goes through. The reason I thought it was doable was due to this thread:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1944430/discussions/0/3808405159038267688/
But I am unsure if they grenade just landed directly in front of the door and still blew the lock on the other side when they thought it went through the bars since someone else talks about how they used an explosive barrel to destroy the lock despite the explosion being on the opposite side to it.
