Character Deaths

Can anyone explain to me how character deaths work? I'm playing on regular mode, and I just keep all my units from dying, but I was wondering which units can die without disappearing and if there are any consequences.

I never played standard mode, but from the stories I read from japanese forum, the important character such as sisters can die without disappearing, but her Vesta's Blessing will be lost, also there are some side character with commander traits in standard, if that character die, it will be game over, but if it's in training mode, the game will continue as it is after that character died (revived after that)
