Climbing pickaxe.
When I use it it consumes too much stamina and I can't climb a wall double the players height. Am I doing something wrong? 10 hours in game.

When you do get access to better ones you can climb the highest towers and cliffs with ease.
So no I don't think you are really doing anything much wrong at that stage of the game.
I sucked too at that point. Some people who are heroes will of course have the best ones by this point as they are just superior to everyone but generally most people will still have sucky picks like yours. Don't panic yet. If it bothers you then build better ones at the earliest possible time and you could even make that your immediate goal. You probably can find better by now but there is so much else to focus on at the 10hr mark that unless someone decides it's critical it's probably going to slip under their radar.

When you do get access to better ones I suggest you try a couple of things.
Firstly when you craft it ensure you focus on components that give it stamina. You don't need melee attack on the climbing pick.
Secondly stamina is probably something you could focus on a bit more in your clothing and such. I have seen some screenshots of peoples builds where they have a lot of HP but no stamina... like 3000hp and 50 stamina. You are going to need all that hp to survive long enough to struggle through a fight when you spend 90% of your time out of stamina.
So in summary ensure you build a balanced clothing set if you only intend to have one general purpose set and don't skimp on stamina. Also ensure your tools are built with components with their actual end purpose in mind.

a good start could be to use food to buff your stamina (up to 3 different buffs at the same time) & craft your climbing pickaxe with stamina-related materials

They start off pretty useless but later on as you get more stamina from better gear and food you can climb for much longer.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

To quote the duelist card: "One who is never struck, it goads, need never fear."
HP is only useful when you make a mistake; stamina is always good.
Stamina depends on gear score and food, so if you haven't crafted any clothing yet, you have low stamina. Also, make simple tools, they are an upgrade from makeshift ones

It gets better with gear and food. In the druidic set crafted with T4 mats I have 227 stam unbuffed. With food buffs x3 it jumps to 687, so I can basically climb Mount Everest now lol.

At lower levels though, like people said, craft with stam mats for the picks, use food, and infuse (once you have the table) with stam efficiency.

wasn't there some1 posting that its possible to eat + add some stamina while climbing aswell? could help to overcome 'too high' cliffs early game

Stamina potion in the Q slot can be drunk while climbing. At low level those potions are rare to find and cannot be crafted yet so potions could be reserved for puzzles and combat.

Yeah, you can brew stamina potions, andput them in your quick use slot (Q button on keyboard.) and just slap Q while you're climbing. It skips the animation for a cool down instead.

I can attest to the idea that it gets better as you get improved clothing and an improved set of climbing picks. I didn't even bother with it til mine was upgraded it becomes a reasonable amount of drain after that.

Pfft. Starting out no amount of effort expended is going to make clothing a major source of stamina. There's not enough clothing options and not enough materials available to make a significant difference. For the first many hours of play, even up to being able to craft the "simple" gear and upgrading it to rare tier, your best bet for stamina is generally going to be food and possibly drink (although that's curiously thin on the ground).

Cook some meat, cook some mixed vegetables, eat them both. If you've got the patience, cook a different type of meat or make a different combination of mixed vegetables and eat that too because the buffs from stack up to three times and can easily double your stamina. By the time you're hitting the Hunt realms you'll be making fancy steaks and fancy salads and they will still be making a massive difference in your stamina. It can easily be doubled and then some with food buffs--no potions needed.

Beyond that, reducing gravity makes it easier to climb things and there is more than one minor card that can do that.

Lunar nectar is pretty easy to get too, and ridiculously buffs stamina. My usual meals consist of a nice stew or seasoned steak, mixed veg, and a nice blueberry nectar. I should probably step up to the actual salad option: but I'm too lazy to farm salt right now. We're talking about victorian england, are there even other spices?

On regen stats, Sashimi apparently gives like 400 points of hp regen / minute.

So yeah some food items has crazy rates, but regen doesn't matter while climbing, it's all about stamina efficiency stat while climbing.

So if you make gloves and tools with high stamina efficiency stats, the drain would be stupid slow to the point where you can scale entire mountains with it.
