[PATCHER] Replace Button Icons / Remove Film Grain
I created a patcher for Silent Hill Homecoming.
It has two features:
- Remove film grain effects
- Replace button icons ( XBox / Playstation )

Latest version
Download[mega.co.nz]
Mirror[www.dropbox.com]
You'll need 7zip[www.7-zip.de] to unpack this.

EDIT: Source code
https://github.com/grasmann/SHHPatcher

Usage
Put the exe file where ever you want.
When a patch process is started the patcher will ask you to open the GLOBAL.PAK from the PAK folder of the game.

Backups
The patcher will create backups for every file it changes and provides the function to restore the game to it's original state with these backups.

Backup Conflict
The button icon patch and film grain patch can be applied indepently.
However if you apply both patches there is one file that needs to be changed by both ( GLOBAL.PAK ).
It contains the button icons and the film grain texture for the loading screens.
This isn't a big problem but it leads to a backup conflict where you could end up with a changed file when restoring the backups incorrectly.
But don't worry the patcher will take care of that for you.
It will store some information in the registry to keep track of the applied patches and remind you to remove them in the correct order. ( see section "registry" below )

Registry
In order to keep track of the changes done to your game files the patcher will create some entries in the registry.
Of course this only works until either you delete those entries or reinstall windows.
The entries can be found under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\SHHPatcher\3.0".

Changelog
v3
- button patcher implemented
- backup solution improved
- released
v2
- film grain patcher improved
- backup solution implemented
v1

Thanks.

Glad I could help.
You do what you can. XD

Btw. I forgot to mention that:
The patcher actually doesn't remove all the film grain effects.
Some of them in video sequences obviously can't be removed without re-rendering the video, which, of course, is impossible for us to do.

I would have loved to use this patcher, but it is not downloading for me. I am stuck on Asphixia and I can't escape her grapple because of the button glitch. Even if I press the right one, I keep dying. So frustrating to get this far and not be able to finish it!

Great , now fix try to fix the real problems like not working buttonpresses when one boss grabs you, or the room that you can't get in inside your home to get your home map.

PC port ♥♥♥♥ing sucks.

Yeah I noticed that myself.
Sometimes the controls don't respond how they should.
But that issue goes too deep into the engine.
Replacing a texture is one thing, rewriting scripts and parts of the engine is, as far as I know, not possible.

I uploaded the patcher to my dropbox.
I hope that helps.

Thank you! I've searched for this mod last year, but I didn't find it.
You are awesome! :D:

And maybe someday we will be seeing a 60 fps patch d:

Trying here. The Path to patch is this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Silent Hill Homecoming\Engine\pak (If you have Steam installed by default in that folder)

Does anybody have proof that this 100% works? I'm not trying to risk ♥♥♥♥ing up my computer.

It shouldn't do any harm.
If the game for whatever reason doesn't work anymore you can always just let steam repair it.
But of course me saying this probably won't make you feel any safer.

If you're afraid of viruses and stuff you can check the files with virustotal.

It's not that, I just don't want to go through the hassle of downloading and it not be okay to play. I mean I've been considering buying the controller FOR steam but in the meantime all I have are PS3 Controllers.

I don't have a PS3 Gamepad.
So first thing to worry about is probably to make that be recognized by the game.
If the gamepad itself is working the rest shouldn't be so hard.

Launch the patcher ( doesn't matter where the exe file is ) and when starting a patch process browse for the file GLOBAL.PAK.
The GLOBAL.PAK is usually in steamapps\common\Silent Hill Homecoming\Engine\pak\pc.
