A Must-Read for Arrow Key Players

Anyone who is playing with Arrow Keys knows that the game is unplayable unless you are using Arrow Key Preset, which is an issue cause not all AK (Arrow Keys) players use the same binding for other keys, and you can’t bind AK Preset as its locked.

THE ISSUE

Setting custom controls to AK has a major problem as these keys are hard-bounded to Weapon/Item Select, meaning whenever you move, it will bring up the weapon screen, which renders the game unplayable.

I have already submitted a ticket to Naughty Dog and this is their response.

“Thank you for reaching out about your issue with The Last of Us Part 1 PC. We greatly appreciate the feedback and will pass this along to the team. As you are aware we have the Arrow Keys Preset and recommend using that during this current time.“

THE SOLUTION

Meanwhile, I have found a solution that works perfectly.

1. Download and install AutoHotKey version v1.1 (v2.0 had issues for me).
   
2. Open notepad and write only these four lines (don’t do vice versa):
   
   up::w
   left::a
   down::s
   right::d
   
   
3. Save it as TLOU.ahk
   
4. Open the Game and bind movement to wasd.
   
5. (DO THIS EVERY TIME YOU PLAY) Run the ahk file (in Administrator Mode), and voila, now you can play with Arrow Keys without any issues.

Hopefully, a proper fix will come in a later patch.

PS: Unlike previous claims, Numpad in the game works perfectly. Numpad Numerical Keys work separately from Horizontal Number Keys. They just have the same icon in the control settings screen, which is leading to confusion.

PSS: If anyone is having crashing issues, make sure VRAM usage in the graphics option is lower than your GPU VRAM. I played for 9 hours now (GTX 1070), and haven’t had a single crash. Maybe it will help with your game too. Major loading stutters are definitely there though.

Im playing with the arrow keys for direction, but pops up the annoying weapons menu.. so im using arrow key scheme but cannot bind anything else..

Tried your little trick but no luck..

i would recommend against using autohotkeys with this game and instead using microsoft's powertoys keyboard manager

i tried autohotkey and i had nothing but problems with it and this game. intermittent input lag and interference with menus

i then tried sharpkeys and it was a pain to use. i had to log out and log back in each time i wanted to enable and disable it.

i finally tried microsoft's powertoys keyboard manager and it works great! no input lag and no menu issues. and i didnt have to log out and log back in each time i wanted to enable and disable it.

what are you talking about it works great. i am using it with this game.
