Is there a way to cancel all formation requests and revert to mixed formation?
How formations are implemented with frigate and capital class ships has no meaningful impact apart from suicide.
I liked to use them because then I can easily moved them to better targeting positions on the Z-Axis, via wall formation, but they will just commit suicide.
Also when it comes to formations, what I find annoying is when I group units together, move them to a distance, first they will find a center point between them to form up, then they will move to the distance. Why can't they form up at the location that I assigned them to move? Move to the spot, then when everyone is there form up .
Instead, I manually move separate groups of ships and then form them up when they are together. Which is super annoying and negates the utility of formations.
1. Make sure LOS is clear, the megaliths can block their los.
2. Continually make sure they're set to "no formation" - they continually squirrel around remaking formations so you have to keep doing this.
3. Something you can do is attack move (default: control + A) behind the desired target *requires a structure behind them* and the torpedo frigate will begin approaching the selected spot, usually but not always shooting what you told it to.
So my method is usually:
1. Set torpedo frigates to group
2. Get them in sniper spot (clear los, away from enemies)
3. Order them to attack
4. Cancel formation
5. Tell them to attack again
and sometimes
6. Attack move behind the target.
***BEWARE ATTACK MOVE WILL MAKE THEM CHARGE THAT SPOT - KEEP AN EYE ON THEM SO THEY DON'T GET IN SHORT RANGE***
With CTRL + A are they picking their targets? Or is it the last target I assigned them to attack?
I am 100% aware this is part of the ships' obsession with staying in formation. I wish they would fix it.
Sorry, asked you the question on the other thread, what are the steps involved?
1. Do I press CTRL A first to issue an attack order?
2. After when I bring up the movement disk, I can move and my ships will continue to attack as they move to position?
I tried in a skirmish where I first chose to issue a regular attack command with the right mouse button.
Then, I press ctrl A because I thought it would bring up the movement disk. On my end it brings up the attack cursor.
In HW1 you would just issue a normal attack command, and then I'd you issued a movement command after it would continue attacking the target while moving and maintain a forward facing position. That's what I want to do.

I do not know how to do this in this game. It might be as simple as just telling them to attack, then moving but it's hard to even tell what's happening.
