I'm confused on this though
This project is based on existing IP. The creators of the original IP could shut it down anytime they want, but they have been receptive to such efforts in the past. However, we will NOT be making money at this. Period. No videos will not be monetized, nor will there be any attempt to make money directly from the production or its assets.
If you're developing from scratch, what IP are you using?
Basically, I want to make a video animation of a webcomic story, but it's like many other machinima projects; subject to the original copyright holder's whim, since this is being done as a fan thing.
That's something we have to worry about all the time. Even though all of our models, maps, particles, etc are custom creations, it's still possible for us to have to deal with the wrath of hasbro. That's one of the reason why i've been hesitant to pursue a similar project i've wanted to do (that and lack of assets). We've even had our models actually used by hasbro without permission before, and there was nothing that could be done about it, because it was their characters. (not that anyone really complained, but still.)
Generally companies look at fan works as free advertizing. even monetizing on youtube isn't frowned on when it comes to animations, songs, etc. it's only when the projects get so big that they start to interfere with the IP that it becomes an issue.
Here, though, with a web comic, if it's more of an independant production. it might bode well if the creators see the work as flattering.
As for the request. as was said, you've helped out alot. I'm far from experienced in animation or video editing, or professional, but If i could help, even if it's something minor, i would be honored.
If it weren't for your dedication and contribution to the community, I would know half the things I do now about SFM.
If you want examples of my writing let me know how to get it to you. I haven't worked in script format before though, fair warning, I write novel-format. I think I could learn script format fairly quickly though.
Best of luck with this either way, you've been a star in the SFM community, I'm sure you'll get a lot of support.
