Recruiting mapmakers, modelers, animators and others for a project
Greetings my friends,

Jimer Lins here. I go by "Jack Burton" on Steam these days but I'm still the same guy.

I've got a project that I've been kicking around in my head for a couple of years now that I'm finally getting put together. I'm looking for some talented mapmakers, modelers, riggers and animators to help out with a fun, but long-term, project. I need people with background and experience to help me realize a strong vision, but I want a team I can share that vision with that will work together to make it a reality.

Take a look at the group description here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/ArtDecoAuto

And if you're interested, hit me up so we can talk.

Wow! This would be really fun to join. You have helped me so many times with your tip of the day videos. Anyway, the only things I could help with in this project could be animating (but im not at the pro level yet) and ideas and scripts.
That's sounds cool. It's been a long time we seen Jimer Lins. Maybe I could help you in animating and stuff. I'll keep on touch
But if you are interested, or we are interesded, should we contact you, or should you contact us?
I'm putting together a list of folks to talk with and will start reaching out to people in the next few days. I'd like to speak with each person and get a sense of how they could contribute.

Thanks! I really appreciate the interest.
OMG, Identity Theft on Steam!!! Jimer... come out and defend yourself!!!! Lol!!! How can WE be SURE????
Already did or I would not have posted what I did...

I'm confused on this though

This project is based on existing IP. The creators of the original IP could shut it down anytime they want, but they have been receptive to such efforts in the past. However, we will NOT be making money at this. Period. No videos will not be monetized, nor will there be any attempt to make money directly from the production or its assets.

If you're developing from scratch, what IP are you using?
The video is based on a story from a web comic. The characters, setting and so forth are the "existing IP", but we're not talking about any existing models or videogame assets here.

Basically, I want to make a video animation of a webcomic story, but it's like many other machinima projects; subject to the original copyright holder's whim, since this is being done as a fan thing.
Ahhh, seen. I must have missed that.. I think of characters, model and map (hard assets) when I think IP, didn't consider storyline content.

That's something we have to worry about all the time. Even though all of our models, maps, particles, etc are custom creations, it's still possible for us to have to deal with the wrath of hasbro. That's one of the reason why i've been hesitant to pursue a similar project i've wanted to do (that and lack of assets). We've even had our models actually used by hasbro without permission before, and there was nothing that could be done about it, because it was their characters. (not that anyone really complained, but still.)

Generally companies look at fan works as free advertizing. even monetizing on youtube isn't frowned on when it comes to animations, songs, etc. it's only when the projects get so big that they start to interfere with the IP that it becomes an issue.

Here, though, with a web comic, if it's more of an independant production. it might bode well if the creators see the work as flattering.

As for the request. as was said, you've helped out alot. I'm far from experienced in animation or video editing, or professional, but If i could help, even if it's something minor, i would be honored.

You're probably right but it's not going to be a big problem for the project as Jimer said he want to use custom assets and not monetize anything in the video.
Jimer/Jack/Gozer (I haven't seen that one in eons - Look out for Marshmellows lol) or whatever you wish to be called tomorrow. Like Raptorn says, I am not great or an expert at anything, I'm just a Jack of all Trades and a troubleshooter. If there is something I can help with, let me know. Consider it as part payment for all the hard work and effort you provided to the community. I can't guarantee that I can devote long time spans to your project, but I can definitely give you some chunks.

If it weren't for your dedication and contribution to the community, I would know half the things I do now about SFM.
I can write, if you need a writer. I think my strengths are character development and dialogue, so if that's any use to you, I'd be glad to help - you've helped me with SFM enormously, but I'm not good enough with it to contribute in that sense, alas.

If you want examples of my writing let me know how to get it to you. I haven't worked in script format before though, fair warning, I write novel-format. I think I could learn script format fairly quickly though.

Best of luck with this either way, you've been a star in the SFM community, I'm sure you'll get a lot of support.
BTW, is this gonna be 1 huge project, or like a serie?
