What kind of game is Great Houses of Calderia ?

Great Houses of Calderia is a modern generational Grand Strategy Game sets in the fantastic land of Calderia inspired by the Renaissance. Build your family’s legacy of power and rise in the ranks of the Great Houses of Calderia!

What are the pillars of the game?
  • Choices matter – Tough decisions to make in order to tackle a wide range of situations from diplomacy to war. Players will have to weigh the pros and cons of each choice
    Story generator- Players' actions generate great stories (diplomacy, battle, event…).
  • Diplomacy and war are equally important and players are expected to play an active role in both of them
  • Tangible feel- Each action made by players comes with a concrete representation in-game in order to make it more accessible. E.g: a trade delegation is sent - caravans appear and make a round trip from a fiefdom to another
  • Innovative artistic direction for the genre(bright and warm colors)
  • Accessible - Complex but not complicated. Easy to get into.
  • Highly customized experience- co-creation of the game with our community and modding tools should be included

When are you planning to release the game?

We don’t have a release date yet. However, we expect the game to be available on Early Access in Q3 2022.

On which platform will the game be available?

We plan to release the game on Steam first.

Which studio is developing the game?

We are partnering with Resistance Games, a Finnish game development studio full of talented people!
They have released the excellent Company Of Crime, a criminal empire-builder featuring tactical turn-based missions.

Wich language will the game be translated in?

English for now, we plan to localize the game during the Early Access in several languages.

What engine are you using?

Unreal engine

Content-related questions

Will there be weather effects that affect certain aspects of the game such as resource production or battles?

Never say never, but for now, we won't have weather effects that affect gameplay.

How many other houses apart from yours would there be?

There will be around 30-40 houses in Calderia

Will you conquer other cities?

Each fiefdom has one city. You don't really conquer cities per se, but you can subjugate them. This means, that you won't be micro-managing multiple different cities, but they'll pay taxes to you etc.

Are there some religious mechanics?

Religion will be part of the Calderian society but for the moment there won’t be any game mechanics related to religion (maybe later on…)

Will you have firearm units?

There is no gunpowder in the world of Calderia. Hence the advanced engineering (compared to early Renaissance standards) and 'da Vinci-esque' designs of weapons, like catapults and crossbows and bows with clips etc.

Is multiplayer planned?
Sadly there won't be a multiplayer planned at all.

We have two separate conflict resolution systems which - even though they are fast to resolve - would force others to wait while one player is waging a battle. In multiplayer game that would be a bummer.

That would be great if the player knew the likely effect that choice would have!

Great - I like it.

Also great.

OK, but then my Trade Cart kept going back and forth ... after the event. No pop-up info to tell me what these carts mean.

Love it, and it has a consistent and 'renaissance' feel - nice.

Accessible - Complex but not complicated. Easy to get into.
Erm ... not so much! Tutorial needs to aide the player on what to actually do during the "year".

Highly customized experience- co-creation of the game with our community and modding tools should be included
