How DEI is this game?

I played the demo and it seemed pretty ok, nothing forced but I'm curious if there is anything forced for the sake of DEI, the dev from looking at the discussions is amazing to give credit so I'm just curious if I should buy it, does the story surpass the demo?

Yeah I don't disagree, I've been browsing the discussions with bugs and he (they) I'm not sure who the dev team is unfortunately but at least one person has been amazing into looking at the forums

I'm just curious because I don't want to support DEI, however the other discussions and some of the themes of the game make it seem like there's DEI?

DEI means "diversity, equity, and inclusion" and solely refers to hiring practices within companies. As for the developer's hiring practices, it's mostly an indie made by two people so there's none of that. Go ahead and buy the game.

The game is made by me (the programmer) and my partner (the artist). My partner created all of the characters and wrote the main storylines.

The story comes from a queer, interracial couple. It's a story about love and relationships and how people change over time. I hope these are things that can be universally appreciated.

The game features many queer characters and couples. They reflect our own experiences of the world.

The story I've come up with is fundamentally mine, with my vision always at it's core and every part, and every aspect of it having to pass through me to assure that it suited my goals. I always make it a point to be unapologetic in the things I create. I am unsure what "DEI" means for you, or what that encompasses completely, but if you're looking for an authentic experience I hope you can feel that Sorry We're Close does that for you.

Nothing during the creation of the game was "forced" upon us, nor were we ever asked (by anyone) to include something we were not comfortable adding to our game. I come from a very mixed family and very mixed friend groups. I wanted to preserve the essence of them in something I created as a thank you for them being in my life.

What I'm asking is whether the characters are LGBT because they are LGBT or just because it matches the story, and I'm not sure if this is something that you can answer honestly or not.

As for your partners response it's honestly an amazing response but unfortunately does not answer my question, I guess to make it to the point is the playable character gay because that's her story or is she gay because of representation is the thing I'm asking

Idk that anyone could answer that question for you, but if the creators say they're queer, I'd guess it's likely an aspect they wanted to include in their story rather that something they felt coerced into including if that's what you're asking.

I did play the demo and thought the game was cool and I enjoyed it. Remind me of old RE
Nothing feel DEI at least from the game experience
Again, having a queer game is fine, nothing is wrong with that. Dei on otherhand getting fund from black rock is a different story

If you are asking about DEI, I only play the demo so far prob will try to play the full game. From the demo everything was fine, I mean if the dev want to make a queer game it is fine bro. If you are not into it then you are not the target audience, but the gameplay is cool though it is like old RE game with some twist. The atmosphere nailed it

i want to give you the benefit of the doubt. So I'll try to answer your question, even though the DEV and others have already.

No, it's not. Why? because the creator already said that they made the game to be unapologetic towards things and wrote the story the way THEY wanted to write it. That means they added whoever or WHATEVER they wanted to write, not to suit an agenda, not to say 'hey i'm gay, look at me', just to write a story with characters THEY WANTED.

As someone who has played the game, I can personally say NOTHING is in your face and preaches to you. It's just a game with as they already said, a diverse cast of characters. That's it.

Play it bruh. your limiting yourself so hard, with the 'is it DEI' mindset.

What an embarrassing question and thread this is. This game is a creative work of art that is fun to play and I'm only a couple hours in. Questioning the motives of indie developers because characters aren't like you is incredibly closed minded and disrespectful. If you play this game and your main question is, "but WHY is she LGBT?", you're focusing on the wrong things. I bet $100 you'd never ask why a character is straight or white.
It's bigotry. And the creators of this game deserve better.
