i like the new idea, but imo the appearance-design of the crystals could have more variants to look less flat; ie an uneven surface, with "reflections" or some kind of texture (one idea that comes to mind would be the pixel version of what broken pieces of obsidian could look like; dont know).

before reading the article, at first glance, the first thing that came to mind was "this must be christmas themed event". maybe colors should be also less saturated?

anyway, is great to see this game is still evolving.

The visuals in the blog post are WIP, they've actually already been improved for the full release of v2.2.0. Although it is intended that the crystals are more colorful than the usual visuals for the caves area.
