Shattered Pixel Dungeon v2.1.0!
v2.1.0 includes Duelist balance changes, three new weapons, two new exotic enemies, and a bunch of tweaks and bugfixes.

First played Pixel dungeon in 2012 on my Samsung galaxy gio and now we are here. Thank you Evan for keeping the game fresh on steam. Been playing the ios version of shattered too alot recently.

Hi,
I've been wondering about the change in the boss area regen. Yes, it would be unfair to be running around and just shoot boss with wand because you have ring of haste and you can outrun him.

But, after few almost winning runs with all the challenges (expect for Pharmacophobia and Forbidden Runes) I got really desperate with an assassin sub-class. With assassin you heavily rely on your cloak and do hit and run, but because of the update and the boss regen, it has become very very confusing after the Tengu boss fight.

You simply cannot use the cloak because after some time you eventually run out of charges and because you cannot constantly attack (you don't have an armor because of the challenge) you end up without charges on your cloak and only way to recover the charges is to go yolo with assassin, which will make you use all your health potions. I do not whine about how I got difficult game because I have challenges, but the main reason this doesnt feel quite right is because I no longer feel like I'm playing assassin. It is punushing for players who want to play some other style than duel master.

Just to provide some numbers, here is how the regen limits have changed for Tengu's first phase:
  • Old: 50 turns initially, and each point of damage grants 1 turn of regen (150 total, or 175 with badder bosses), with no cap.
  • New (unchallenged): 50 initial + 1 turn of regen per damage (150 total), with a 50 turn cap.
  • New (with badder bosses): 20 initial + 0.5 turns of regen per damage (82.5 total), with a 50 turn cap.

In the end this translates to about 67.5 fewer turns of regen, you could maybe use the cap to get closer to around 80 turns if you really killed the first phase quickly. That's about 2 fewer charges of regen for the cloak of shadows, total. I do appreciate that every little bit counts on a high-challenge run, but in general I dislike players feeling compelled to wait around in high-chal boss fights to maximize regen, which is why I made these changes. Keep in mind that there are also items like scrolls of mystical energy, or talents like mystical meal, which can help you get some extra cloak charges.
