SteamPipe conversion update issues
All,

As some of you may have found out, the next time you start ZPS you'll be greeted to a prompt telling you to convert to a "more efficient format". Doing so ATM will cause some unwanted issues, such as missing sounds/materials, excessive loading times, and so on.

The team's just been notified of this predicament, and are contacting Valve to figure out a way to resolve this problem ASAP.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused by this issue.

EDIT: Please opt into the latest Steam Beta Client update, this will fix some issues (missing sounds, etc.)

Thanks, hopefully it will be sorted out soon.

Also, I played on our servers for a few hours today and beyond sound issues, it seems like clients are getting the timeout error repeatedly. The servers are crashing frequently too. I might be able to send in error reports if requested. contact: admin@specialistleague.com

An fyi to server owners who own a dedicated box or VDS: Since this game is being converted to SteamPipe, you will have to start using, at some point, the SteamCMD client instead of the hlds client to install/create/update new ZP:S servers. Take time and familiarize yourselves with it on their official wiki: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/SteamCMD

The hlds client is being depreciated and most, if not all, steam games are being converted to SteamPipe. Updating your servers with hlds will have no results since it does not support the SteamPipe content delivery system. Most ZP:S servers are currently running/using hlds instead of SteamCMD, which is most likely the cause of most of the timeout issues people are experiencing. That isn't a 100% certainty though, but a speculation based on how previous games handled the SteamPipe conversion process. It is best to wait for the ZP:S devs to give a more definitive answer/solution to the current issues, but in the meantime, it is a good idea to familiarize yourselves with the SteamCMD client while you wait.

As for people having issues with Hammer: you will need ZP:S's .gcf files to get the SourceSDK version of Hammer to work correctly until a version of Hammer comes out for ZP:S that utilizes the .vpk files. If you don't have the .gcf file, you are mostly out of luck unless some kind soul decides to host it for you to download. It will need to be placed in the steamapps directory of your Steam folder.

Thanks Silence, I actually tried to perform an test with a new server using the following script:

steamcmd +login anonymous +force_install_dir ../zps +app_set_config 90 mod zps +app_update 90 validate +quit

This installed Counter Strike (cstrike) but not zps? Still testing to find out why the zps mod is not installing correctly.

I see. It used the default install, which was cstrike. They updated the game, but they have yet to add ZP:S to the content delivery for SteamCMD. That is something that probably has to be worked on on Valve's/the dev's end, so you'll have to sit tight until then. It may be under a different name than zps or they may be giving it its own number instead of appid 90.

Makes sense, thanks again Silence.

Riley - If you could post on this forum when this is available, that would be much appreciated.

You guys will be using app 90 for your mod installation and the extra will most likely be +app_set_config "90 mod zps" in your batch/script file. Don't quote me on that, but most mods require app 90 and will need to be "named" so SteamCMD knows what to look for/download.
App 90 is the GoldSrc (original Half-Life) dedicated server, so you won't be using that!

Valve needs to respond to their inquiry. Patience is required as it may take several days for this process to work its way out.

Hey guys our Desura version of Zombie Panic Source[www.desura.com] still works, I suggest using that one till we get this mess sorted out.

Can you please switch to the "loose" beta and see if that fixes the issues. Game Properties -> Betas -> Loose.
(SL) Uncle Fred 5 ago. 2013 às 11:35
We are trying out the loose beta now and will report back.
