Wait a minute: only ONE area is "unlocked" Seriously?
I waited two years for this. Why shouldn't ALL areas be unlocked right from the beginning?

Two areas. I think they want to force players to go through the tutorials.
I don't recall reading on ANY of the discords that almost all areas would be unlocked at the beginning, but upon purchasing, downloading Lushfoil and playing, that's what I see to be the case.
At the very least, why weren't players given a choice: "easy" (all areas unlocked) or hard (you have to complete achievements, etc, to unlock areas). I purchased this...and was really anticipating this...simply to stroll through the environments. This is a huge letdown and unless I missed something in the discords, I was mislead into thinking I could visit any area once I start the game.
I'll wait until there's a patch for unlocking all areas and buy it again, I guess. I don't have a lot of time to do achievements.
If I missed something saying that almost all areas were to be locked I would have waited for a hack or a patch to unlock them, I'd have held off on buying Lushfoil. Do you plan on addressing this, Matt?
I know most younger gamers like a challenge, but I'm not one of them. I bought this simply for the outstanding visuals, which is why I enjoyed the demo.

Do you not want to take pictures? Will you not find items exploring the environments? I did the first area, got all of the pictures, found several of the hidden items and unlocked the third area well before I was ready to move on.
Not the point. I simply wanted to have all areas opened to me. I didn't view this as an "adventure game" per se...just a game where I could enjoy the visuals right away. TO each his or her own. Not what i expected, and as I said, I never read on the discord that areas would be locked at the outset.
I agree, the whole idea of this game is to walk around beautiful tourist spots and contemplate the beauty of the places while taking photos. Locking the locations is not a good idea. If the idea is to reward those who complete things, it would be enough to create an album where the guy completes with medals or something.

But that's okay, I liked the first two areas and I'm going to explore them to open up the rest.

Sorry you're disappointed.

I guess I could ask on the flip side, did you ever read anything on the discord that said they would all be unlocked from the start or was that just an assumption? And I am asking because I have not really followed this game at all. It just popped onto my radar this morning thanks to CohhCarnage doing a sponsored stream.
I visited the "ask matt" discord area pretty frequently, and don't recall one of the many hundreds of messages that stated the areas would mostly be unlocked. If there IS one I sure missed it, and would certainly have held off. ONly the mountainous area is unlocked when you start the game, and you have to locate a photo board while wandering around, then take six EXACT photos from the EXACT angles represented on said board, which apparently unklocks area number 2...etc.
SO you can't simply wander around and then expect other areas to be unlocked...APPARENTLY. I just wanted to visit all the areas at my leisure to view the visuals. I have dozens of challenging games that I enjoy, I simply viewed this as a walking simulator with outstanding visuals, all areas unlocked for me to visit. It is decidedly NOT the latter.
I've not been on discords or anything, but I'm not a fan of this unlock mechanism. I don't see the point in having a free roam space where you are supposed to exercise your creative freedom only to be constrained by having to hunt down an replicate a bunch or photos that I can't refer to if I'm not standing in from of them at the time.
Strange to lock anyway. Or at least you should manage to do other area if you take a certain number of picture... but not even this, you have to do strange thing. i dont understand the objective.
That's the weirdest complaint I've ever seen. You need to play a game to progress further? What a nonsense, who thought it'll be a good idea to complete objectives and to stuff in a videogame.
"progress" ? ^when i go outside, i choose where i go. Then i progress in the place i am. Its just strange to lock place. So for exemple, if i want, like i suppose a lot of people see the one with tori at japan, i ve to "progress" ? i ve to do all other place, to finaly manage to see one i want to see more ?
I just not understand.
And if it was a adventure game, i would understand, i do a lot, but for this ?
To each his or her own. I get a laugh of out fellow gamers nay-saying other peoples' opinions , because it isn't how THEY feel or think. It would have been better to appeal to all players to have an easy mode where everything is unlocked AND a more advanced mode where anyone who loves those ol' challenges could go hunt down 6 exact-location-view photos to their hearts' desire. Good for them. I've got plenty of games where that's cool.
Me? I wanted the areas in THIS GAME unlocked so I can explore any one I want, at my leisure. Seems as if it would have been easy to appeal to a broader set of players.
Then you just don't like the concept of the game. That happens. Move on and look for another game that appeals to you more. The developer doesn't have to please everyone.

I find the first area to be intensely bad looking and want to spend as little time there as possible.
This is barely a game, so why it has unlocks is wild when the entire point is to go around taking pictures. Kind of dumb to be forced to spend time somewhere you don't want so you can get around to somewhere you might maybe like.
