Dragon age awakening Hard Copy won't work

so i have dragon age origins on steam but I also bought the DLC (hard copy of it) which I am trying to install. Every time i try it says that the original game must be installed for it to work... but it already is. I try verifying the code on steam but it keeps saying that it is invalid... what do I do any help?
