Freeze in Chapter 8
I've been playing Mirror's Edge relatively problem free until this morning, when I reached chapter 8. I reach a point where I have to climb up a building to reach a vent. I can reach the vent OK but this is when my problems start, I follow the vent some way, and then there's a part where I have to drop down. After the drop the game freezes. Every single time. I've tried doing the file validation, makes no difference, the game freezes without fail in the exact same spot. I've tried googling, but can't find a solution to the problem, mostly on account that most results detail the ps3 version of the game for chapter 8 freezes.

Any clue anyone? I'm about to try a total reinstall but any other suggestions would be apprecaited. I'd like to finish the game rather than have to write it off as a bad purchase.

A reintsall didn't do the slightest bit of good. Noticed the freeze always happens when a rat appears in the vent.

Disable Physx?
Do you have windows 8? Cause that causes many problems with Mirror's edge.

Win 7 64 bit. But I did get by that bit just now by turning my settings down to as low as they'd go, including diabling Physx (seriously Physx is cool but it gives me more trouble with games than anything else).

wasnt the freeze something to do with piracy?

I resent that implication. My copy was legitmately purchased through Steam.

This problem usually occurs when you have a slow computer, in fact, this happens almost every time on console versions. What you have to do is to stand in the part of the vent right before the part where you freeze and press Esc key to pause. After a several seconds the level should load and you can continue. Hope that helps.

I did get by it now bu doing what I said above. I have seen that advice before when I was searching SWFlash, maybe I didn't wait long enough but it didn't work for me. I haven't got a slow computer though, but a dedicated gaming system. I have had some issues with startup time lately which I guess might have something to do with it, but the system runs smoothly once it's going, and runs Mirror's Edge (and any other game I have) otherwise smoothly.

My spec:

Alienware Aurora R3
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
Intel Core i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30 GHz
2x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
