With Starfield Bethesda have shown a willingness to go back to their old formula.
There is a mixup in how the map looks between Starfield and Skyrim, obviously, different settings require different ways of traversing the world. Starfield is unique in that regard, that you have to travel through space, it is something new that Bethesda have to deal with and develope on.
When I say that Starfield shows, that Bethesda is willing to go back to their old formula, I mean in terms of player freedom.
With Skyrim, you went through a tutorial, and after that tutorial, you are basically let loose upon the world. You could go do the Mage questline, the Dark Brotherhood Questline, Thieves Guild, whatever regardless of the main quest.
The same thing was not the case for Fallout 4, where certain main quests were required in order to proceed with certain huge side quests.
Starfield repeats that success of Skyrim. You go through a forced tutorial, albeit rather long compared to Skyrim and Fallout 4, but after that, you can go ahead and do any big questline in any order you wish, regardless of the main quest line. You just have to go ahead, deliver Vasco and the first artifact, and then you can just... leave. The main quest, like in Skyrim but unlike in Fallout 4, is absolutely irrelevant for your progression in any other major questline in Starfield.
While Starfield has argueably failed in terms of space travel, I mean it is a new thing for Bethesda to do, so I guess we should be fair in our criticisms of it, and help tell them what could be better rather than just mindlessly bash it, because Bethesda show that they are willing to learn from our complaints.
Do you see a voiced protagonist this time, as an example?
Space travel in Starfield is terribly executed - traversing the game world is not as interesting as it was in past title. But the unique player freedom found in past BGS titles, aside from Fallout 4, are definitely there.
And that leads me to believe that Elder Scrolls 6 won't have much trouble.
Elder Scrolls 6 will probably have a map that people are more familiar with from past games. A single big map that they can explore, at worst, two certain parts of two different continents.
There are some good things that BGS can bring with them from Fallout 4 and Starfield. Fallout 4 and Starfield have more developed companions and more developed companion interactions. Companions in Skyrim had not at all developed from companions in Fallout 3, Skyrim companions were brick-walls with no flavor or personality (Which, now that I think about it, is an insult to brick-walls because brick-walls have more personality and flavor than companions in Skyrim, because atleast brick walls have different designs and color). THis was improved in Fallout 4, and was technically also improved in Starfield, but the companions in Starfield are way too samey. BGS needs to diversify more in types of characters.
The handcrafted content is a lot better in Starfield, the story is better, but that bar is low. Story in Skyrim and Fallout 4 were bad and way too "GOTTA SAVE THIS IMMEDIATELY!"
I mean, you can only roleplay a deadbeat Dad/Mom so many times in Fallout 4.
I am eagerly awaiting Elder Scrolls 6, but I am just as equally excited for this long-term support for Starfield that Bethesda promised. Between that and mods, Starfield is going to dominate my free time until ES6. Maybe even beyond.
So all the other far-right attacks on the game have failed I guess this is the new troll .
Starfield is so bad it's a joke. And every future Beth game will be just worse.
If ES6 is using the same engine and developers i'am not very hopeful. Im sure they re-used alot from star field in ES6. Along with companions that will complain everytime you do something they dont approve of. ES6 is not being made by the same people that made Skyrim and fallout 4. Not looking good for ES6 unless they make major changes now... If they decide to ignore the majority that realize what star fraud is and listen to the fanboys saying Star field is perfect, then yes ES6 will be a huge flop, but not as bad as star field because there (SHOULD) im saying should because I dont know but there SHOULD be NO LOADING SCREENS! Its should be legit open world and with that alone it will already be better than star field.
If they decide to listen to the "majority" ES6 will definitely be a huge failure.
That is pretty much it.
Most people who complain about Starfield but praises Skyrim have absolutely no clue what they are talking about.
That much have become clearer and clearer to me.
They are so blinded by their dislike of the way of travelling through the game world in Starfield, that they outright ignore all of the good that Starfield has that was also in Skyrim, but was not in Fallout 4.
They ignore the fact, that Bethesda have seemed to learn, but Starfield is a new setting, a new kind of game which required another form of traversing the game world - a way of traversing the game world that Bethesda is largely unfamiliar with, it is new grounds for BGS so it is not going to be as good the first time, as it possibly could be in the future.
But that way of traversing the game world is also so far away from what is going to be in a future Elder Scrolls title. The gameplay is also wholly different.
Starfield convinced me to never preorder a Bethesda game ever again. I'll wait until trusted reviewers confirm to me that it's worth purchasing before I spend another penny on one of their games. And this is coming from someone that still considers Skyrim to be the best game ever made.
