It works fine on my pc with almost the same components. I have a 6700XT and I'm running EndeavourOS KDE - with mesa 23.1.7.

Your problem sounds like overheating issue, or your PSU started to fail. My previous PSU produced similar issues under high load, but that was a 5+ years old at that point. In my case, a new PSU was the solution.

The 6900XT is a power hungry beast, you should check thermals and PSU first.

Hmm, it was running fine on 23.1.6 and was able to play it 4 days ago with experimental, like it'll boot up and load the new game, then it was black out and reboot my computer. maybe i'm one i got unlucky with the update. luckily i have a cpu fan and psu sitting in my closet..... also using Kubuntu btw

Have the same issues after update mesa to 23.1.7.
After investigation I have found that mesa 23.1.6 contains specific fix for Starfield that is removed in 23.1.7 due issues with other games. DO NOT UPDATE TO 23.1.7 if you are playing Starfield

For people having issues with 23.1.7, this maight be the solution:

VKD3D_CONFIG=force_host_cached

More info here: https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/issues/1693

On my system, the game runs fine with Mesa 23.1.7-arch1.1 package.

Did you add this to the launch command within steam or something different?

With me only helped the Mesa revert back to 23.1.6. After that it worked again without problems.

How do you use the VKD3D_CONFIG=force_host_cached?

I got about 10 hours play on 23.1.6 and haven't been able to load a game since 23.1.7. I tried:

VKD3D_CONFIG=force_host_cached %command%

but sadly it still doesn't work.

Looking at the syslogs I see:

I have tried VKD3D_CONFIG=force_host_cached %command% with kernel 6.2 with little success. Encountered some unexpected problems with installing kernel 6.5, so couldn't try it.

In the end the quickest way to fix this was to restore last month OS environment (with Linux Mint's "Timeshift" utility). It brought back Mesa 23.1.5 and now Starfield works fine once again. :).

At the very least I can confirm that Starfield is fine with both 23.1.5 and 23.1.6 Mesa.

It depends on your distro, but for Kubuntu, I had to manually download the previous packages from here:

https://launchpad.net/~kisak/+archive/ubuntu/kisak-mesa/+build/26513551

https://launchpad.net/~kisak/+archive/ubuntu/kisak-mesa/+build/26513554

Steam needed both the 64 and 32 bit. Next, I disabled the kisak repository so it wouldn't upgrade to 23.1.7 again. Then, I downgraded back to the original Ubuntu repository version. Finally, I manually installed all the packages I downloaded with:

sudo dpkg -i *.deb
