Apocalypse was way better then SMT 4 even though they're one whole game. Best SMT game stays for me Strange Journey.

Shin Megoomi Tensei aside SMTV is super fun. It's less plot oriented but as an RPG the gameplay is super fleshed out. It's even innovative for the series as a whole.

IV was retelling of SMT 1 in a way, i found the characters much more interesting and engaging in I and IV than i did in Apocalypse. But gameplay wise Apocalypse did improve on what was already in IV
