IMO, that just adds more fire to the ship. Many romantic stories have drama, and the drama of "I'm just hanging out with you because I'm being controlled by the player" could make for a compelling conflict that later gets resolved.

I'm not sure what's going to happen in the official story, but I could imagine an interesting fan-fiction with that premise if you're into that sort of thing.
