I took my island up as high as it would go, then flew off and got over the leviathan in my glider. Then landed on it from above. I needed to use the boost button a lot while flying. And sometimes it was necessary to glide around the leviathan for some minutes, boosting occasionally, before I could find a good height and angle to land on it. Fortunately, gliding doesn't use much energy.
Once you've landed on the leviathan, you already know what to do. That bit is easy. It's getting over the leviathan that's the problem.
Devs say they are looking into a fix; the guys say that even over time/reloads the leviathan doesnt seem to move to another height.. but they have had success by starting with same character/home island in a new world.
