Combat?
The game says it is an "action survival" game, and talks about "surviving the dangers of the surface". Is there combat or are the dangers just environmental dangers?

Teaser trailer showed pretty distinctively various weapons that look like firearms and not just high tech tools. So I would expect some shooting, maybe below the clouds where mentioned but not showcased creatures lurk.

Trailer makes me think it's like Subnautica, but above ground.

I watched the trailer but didn't see anything that looked like weapons. Instead it looked like a tool to me. But maybe I missed it.

Cool, thanks for the info. This sounds like a very interesting game, hope it comes out well - it's on my wishlist for now!

Now that's the Subnautica of healthly man!
I kind of hope combat isn't the dominant interaction with wildlife in this, there's something interesting about not being the top predator and shooting things being more of a backup option if things have gone wrong. It makes sense to have some kind of personal armament though.

So just a follow up, will there be weapons that you carry, or will the thing on your arm seen in the screenshots be your weapon (as well as the tool you use)?

You will carry weapons and additionally use tools that are attached to your arm and a part of your environment suit.
Another thought about the combat, inspired by Nausicaä:

Whenever a horror/survival game introduces a weapon, it tends to weaken the tension quite a bit, because you know that whatever comes for you you can just blow it away. I really think for the tension and sense of player vulnerability to be maintained there should be some kind of reason why you might not want to go in all guns blazing.

In Nausicaä attacking the wildlife, especially with loud firearms, was a very bad idea as it would enrage the entire forest causing a stampede of very angry insects to come your way. I kind of think something similar might be interesting here, meaning you could fight your way out of trouble but then it would be a case of getting out of there or otherwise calming down the denizens. With the focus on the science and pathogen side of things I could imagine some kind of pheromone bombs or something like that which would help you pass by without trouble.

Really I have no idea what you guys are planning, but I have high hopes!
