1) turning on the PC (win 10 with fast startup disabled),
2) wait for steam to fully load at startup
2.5) launching viveport if I have an active subscription
3) press the power button on my VP2 link box
4) this auto-launches Vive Console for SteamVR
5) this auto-launches SteamVR and I'm good to go after the base stations spin up.
With the vive pro 2, shutdown process is important:
1) exit SteamVR via SteamVR menu or dashboard
2) SteamVR should quit (not crash), followed by a static blue nebula scene in the HMD from Vive Console for SteamVR for a few seconds before going dark, controllers should beep and power down. (If any of that didn't happen, startup and shut down again). Power down the link box now.
3) verify base stations got the shutdown command, if not just unplug them until next time.
When I got the VP2 I did originally install vive console and vive software before installing vive console for steamvr. I have not run the standalone vive console since that first week. I'm not sure I needed to install the standalone version, I think some users skip it. My steamvr blocks htc_rr all the time. It might be for eye-tracking hardware I don't have, it doesn't seem to be important. My SteamVR also blocks gamepad support, also not important to me. I'm not in any betas.
That said, for the most part the vr works, i usually start it via the Vive Console icon on the desktop - this was put here when i installed the software originally via the headset.
Im not sure if the Steam software replaced this icon or uses a different one - it appears i have the vive console in program files AND in the steam apps. If i remove either one though, the headset refuses to start and complains of missing files.
Ive not had the system crash on exit - but since installing the vive console software from steam, the system freezes for a couple of seconds when i close steam vr. I usually do this by closing the steamvr window. The console software closes, but leaves an icon on the taskbar - this icon is here everytime i restart the computer. I can launch steam vr by opening the console via this icon, or on desktop - doesnt seem to matter which is used.
Im just trying to figure out where the display options and fps settings have gone - i can only assume those settings are for a vp2 and shouldnt have appeared at all for me - i cant find anyone else posting about adjusting cosmos elite display settings on the console.
1) after I disabled the vive pro eye calibration at startup, I still get the htc_rr blocked message.
2) per your observation, I paid closer attention to the colors of the Vive Console icon in my windows status bar, and the colors match that of Vive Console, not the inverted colors of Vive Console for SteamVR.
edit: indeed, Steam Library for Vive Console for SteamVR says I have not run that since 13 months ago, so it seems turning on the link box power launches Vive Console.
