The fact it's only Sony MUSIC, plus Aniplex, that formed a joint venture to produce merchandise, music, and an anime.
There's potential in Palworld, so of course they're going to expand on it.
(Remember, Palworld made in one month what took Pokemon Scarlet/Violet an entire year to make)
It's what allows stuff like this:

you sould take you own advise Give your head a good shake and learn how to parse information before reacting like a baby
But like...every successful franchise and IP has gone on to make merchandise. Are you going up to kids at a playground and calling them shills or sell outs for buying merch? Seems a little silly.
I mean, how dare they explore additional revenue streams in an attempt to maintain their independence. The fiends!
You sound like someone who wouldn't recognize when people are in bed together. But this forum isn't for explaining the birds and the bees. Go ask your parents.
What exactly scares you about this? You do know people can make joint ventures while maintaining their independence?
Its not like Pocket Pair and Sony came together and made a company called "Sonys Mega cool Entertainment", goodness, its called "Palworld Entertainment" and is a smart move for an indie studio that has no connections or knowledge on making merch.
I'd argue small guys being able to leverage the big names into arrangements in their favor is the opposite of selling out. Takuro Mizobe is the one in charge of Palworld Entertainment and it speaks volume about their upcoming strength that they are getting into collaborations and ventures with established titans.
You can cry sell out once they y'know, sell their control in exchange for dosh.
Problem people fail to realize is that Sony has a reputation close to Satan does to the church lol. Sony's reputation will put anyone in the crossfire for dealing with them and Sony deserves this reputation.
it does seem like an odd decision based only at money. There is mention this is to facilitate the growth of the game but idk the specifics because there are none lol.
The merch aspect is obviously just another partner cashing in good timing for Christmas .
What do I expect knowing what I have seen in 40 years of gaming DLC's and I wouldn't even put it past them to add in a cash shop because that is typically the enticement to get partners on board.
Until we see anything bad come of this game I feel it deserves to be supported I cannot say the same for Blizzard that is NOT a consumer friendly business.
We formed a separate company, Palworld Entertainment, with Sony Music and Aniplex to create Palworld merchandise and explore other ways to expand the IP outside of game development.
Palworld the game has nothing to do with this.
These are two separate entities.
Palworld Entertainment (Pocketpair, Sony Music, Aniplex) will make plushies, t-shirts and stuff.
Pocketpair will continue to make Palworld the game.
That is about all there is to it.
It's almost like, in order to get some backup in dealing with the multi-million dollar company presently trying to sue the crap out of them, they decided to get backup from the multi-million dollar company that has successfully told nintendo to gtfo in the past, and they get the added bonus of "paying" for that assist via their new joint company's merch earnings. It's literally a win/win for everybody.
As a reminder, had Palworld not taken off and thus fixed the issue, Pocketpair would have been, and was initially, quite literally on life support. Pocketpair in no way could have ever taken on Nintendo alone even with the success Palworld earned them without ending up back in the same position they were at before releasing Palworld.
Whinging and moaning about them "getting into bed with the enemy" when that decision means they can focus on making More Game instead of having to waste all those earnings on legal BS is absolutely, incontrovertibly, stupid and lacks any real common sense.
Additionally, just because they're working with Sony does not, in any way, mean they're giving up any major degree of development freedom, especially with the clear line in the sand Bucky here has pointed out exists (that being Palworld Entertainment for merch vs Pocketpair themselves for the actual game).
It's reasonable to be distrustful of Sony even if they are using Sony only for their merch, Sony will make demands from their game anyways mark my words. Sony will always find a way to cram their political garbage down everyone's throats one way or another.
