Why are pals named pals?
The castaway journal says that he named them pals, and the area Palpagos Islands, but then why does everybody else also call them pals?
People already existed on the island and were calling them pals.

But you have the free pal alliance and PIDF that were there before the castaway. And the likelihood of the castaway just coming up with names that exactly match the natives are SO slim

Listen pal, calling a friend or foe "pal" is a time-honored tradition.

Someone probably called one of those beasties "Pal" in a taunting or friendly manner a long time ago, and it spread around and stuck.
because they're our pals
our buddies
our best friends
our good boys
our pals
I... I meant in ingame lore...

i mean lore wise Pals were human at one point, and they are called pals because a scientist called them so. Created from possible DNA experiments

Ah ha. You tell us. Personally I completely ignore the lore unless it gives some in game perk. That doesn't seem to be the case, at least not yet. Also the lore seems to be totally optional. I did read one note I picked up, although I must have at least 30 of em.

To be fair the lore of this is ingame
Personal Animal Labor
People Are Lunch.
the castaway was the one that decided to call them pals and named the island. the diary doesnt mention other people directly, closest is the human and giant pal in the tower but we dont know how old that is.

the other diaries are rather recent so we can assume everyone else found the castaways diaries or met him at some point and decided to adopt the name pal for conveniences sake

Because "Mutated Freak World" doesn't lead up to the nice lore twist.

He asked why they call them Pals, not why the island is called Palpagos Island.
