How to explore lava zone?

I'm using heat resistant armor but when I approach the lava I catch fire and die within seconds. There's these rock platforms in the lava that are clearly designed for traversal but using those puts you so close to the lava that I always catch fire.
Is this an oversight or am I an idiot smhw?

Are you flying over the actual lava or the partly hardened lava? There's a difference. I'm in single player and flying over the red hot fully red lava lights me on fire every time. No matter how high in the air I am from it. It's gotten me killed a lot.

As far as I know flying pals that walk when landed have the bug where even flying over lava you'll take damage. If you use a flying pal that always flies, even on the ground, you'll be fine going over lava. The exception is the darker, flowing lava, it extends above ground level such that you'll still be touching it even while flying along the ground.

That must be my issue then, because I'm using that Pal the final boss tower uses and it doubles as a ground mount and flying.

I think they may mean flying at ground level

certainly was higher than ground level, was using a quivern , and was multiplayer

Vanwyrm (?) worked for me for traversing lava

I flew a vanwyrm to get items that spawn on lava and used COLD resistant armor with 2 heat underwear on with no problem so just double up on your underwear

Don't fly non-fire mounts in the lava area. Nightwing will get you killed. Vanwyrm is fine, Jetragon is fine, Suzaku is finne, don't use Suzaka Aqua though.

Never had a problem flying suzaku aqua anywhere. Not sure what I'm doing differently.

Huh, fair enough. Maybe some water/ice mounts might be fine then? Did you try landing on lava with it?

yea i've tested, it seems elphidran no matter at what height gets damaged in lava, seems bugged. may apply also to other ground dwelling flyers.

also non-fire type does not matter, even a beakon can fly over lava.

i guess it depends what mount you use, a Suzaku can fly over lava safely

Fire flying mounts at least are immune to lava damage, and transfer that to you. So long as you dont fly into the magma flows your fine.

There is one dungeon location that autokills you on exit though which is annoying, even if you immediately mount or roll back to the dungeon entrance it's too late you burn to a crisp.

lol i know which one youres talking about, thankfully with 20 points into HP i was able to survive that but it was a close one
