Controller Support Disappointing
I've been looking forward to controller support but it's not great. For starters, you can't even use the system menus. I can't change any of the graphics options at all with controller. You can highlight them, but you can't make changes.

Also, you cannot bind camera control to right stick. I know the game uses that for other things but let me choose please or offer a few controller presets.

Disappointed by it so far. Some parts are too fiddly on controller or don't use the logical button you'd expect.

Also, to be completely fair, I didn't expect this to arrive with only "partial" controller support.

Trying to even launch the game on Steam Deck is a nightmare. Pretty disappointed as well.

Not surprising at all. This dev has stated right from the beginning they had no priority or interest in controllers and were intentionally building the entire game without any focus on controller support so trying to shoehorn them in at the end because they are hoping for some sweet sweet console money is simply bound to be terribly implemented.
Anyone reading these forums over the years has seen many people begging them for controller support since original EA launch and the devs have always stood firm against prioritizing it up until now right at the end, so is there any surprise it was badly implemented? The game simply was not designed for it from the ground up.
the game looks like dual stick game to me, i`m suprised devs didn`t think about controller support from the begening. I`ll wait with buying till they fix it

I'm really confused about it. I was sure they said they would release it today and sure it works but I still see prompts for keyboard instead of controller and I can't jump off ledges or open map or build menu...they could as well left it out tbh....
Just jumped into a quick test of the release to see how the Controller feels, and I have to say it seems OK to me using a Xbox Controller
Gonna test this later, as my girlfriend really has issues with m/k and a good controller support would making this game more accessible to her. (she is obviously not a gamer usually ;)

It's the only thing holding me off from a purchase. It'll be on the wish list indefinitely until I hear anything more favorably about controller support. Too many other games and backlog to fill the gap for now anyway.

Works well for me on Steam Deck. Only thing I had to do was to reset the controller layout back to the suggested standard, otherwise it would still use my old keyboard based setup (and not showing as using controller ingame).
I also set my right trackpad back as mouse and use it ingame if there are missing controller based input options (like changing gfx).
Also no problems running/starting it on the Deck?

I know not everyone has one, but if you use a PS5 controller connected to your PC (with a USB C cable) it changes the UI and everything. It was definitely made with a PS5 controller in mind. And yes I know, not everyone has that and it kind of stinks if you don't have one, but if you do hook it up.

That's a damn shame. I had a fully functional twin stick config that was a tad elaborate but everything was functional, and labeled in Steam overlay for quick reference. Unfortunately it was only for the Dualsense because I had to use the Touchpad for a couple things (which I don't even use anymore because I'm sick of the stick drift)

They're going to have to fix that to release on PS5. I'm pretty sure part of their terms is everything in the game must be accessible via a PS5 controller; even though their consoles have supported keyboard and mouse in general since ps3 (and even some niche cases for ps2)

So we can assume it will get better probably, hopefully :zagpls:

People with arthritis, people who grew up playing Baldur's Gate 2 or Dark Alliance 2 or Diablo 1 or Record Of Lodoss War on consoles, or people who physically can't sit at a computer desk.
Just to name a few.

If anyone is thinking OP might not have configured Steam Input properly or some such, I can confirm what they say is true lol

You straight up can not change any of the drop downs in the settings on controller.
I was like "maybe if I select it with A then I can change it with the d-pad" and that just moved the highlight and can get the cursor trapped on invisible UI; you can only get it unstuck by changing tabs with a bumper and swapping back.
Also tried selecting them and changing them with the triggers or sticks and nothing.

Also when I first did this on the "Connection Method" drop down, before I went to the Graphics tab, i straight up broke that drop down entirely and could not select it anymore no matter how many times I left the tab and came back.
:waytohell:

Edit:
What makes this extra goofy is that the drop downs for selecting DoB and Region work better than expected
