I like the blood the way it is, the trailer makes it look very futuristic/biotech stuff but options are always welcome.

We all think the same! Purple blood will always be canon, as NPC's will frequently refer to that.

Red Blood can be activated as one of the game's mutators. All mutators are considered non-canon and are just there to add some additional replay value.
