How to move around

I am a total novice - and I am so frustrated after 15 min. I approach a door, but want to back up and look around. I cant. Am I not allowed to? can someone please be kind enough to help out a little? I really just want to know what keys on keyboard work? or how to use the mouse?

If you've clicked a door, you can't go back, and must immediately draft a room, unless the door is locked.

If you're playing with keyboard and mouse, the controls are
Move your mouse to look around (if you want to invert Y movement, you can do so in settings.)
W to move forward
S to move backward
A to move left
D to move right
Left click to interact with pretty much everything
Right click lets you back out of menus (shops, locked doors, etc.)
Escape to pause
Tab opens your map and inventory (if you're looking at a door, you can still press tab to see the map! Very helpful for planning)
R opens the Room Directory (List of rooms, their rarities, descriptions, etc.)

I'd say that's the basics. If the game wants you to use a key other than these, it'll tell you. Using an item is always just bound to left click, and the game automatically determines which item to use depending on what you're looking at.
