Eaten whole out of nowhere

I was in the middle of the ocean, at full health but a bit insane. Suddenly a massive fish came up from under me and swallowed me in one bite. Has this happened to anyone else?

sounds to me you accidentally wandered off too far, because that's what happens once you travel a 'bit' too far outside the normal playable area.

Yeah, that happens sometimes when you're absolutely losing it and out at sea for a long time. I had it happen a few times, luckily usually not long after sitting at a dock, Rest up before long journeys and try to avoid the panic miasma fields in the open.

To me that seems like an "out of bounds" mechanic. Unfortunate though, because fish can still spawn so far out. So I was going after a swarm on the open ocean and was attacked around it.

It's definitely not "out of bounds". The game warns you when you're at the edge of the world in a pretty unmissable alert. Every time I got eaten whole, I was just going between islands, usually from north to south or vice versa.

It is the same fish that appears when you go "Out of Bounds" - but I have seen him appearing every now and in the waters between the Marrows and other zones. There is usually a bit of rumbling and then he'll surface. He seems to just swim away, but I assume that if you don't leave the area fast enough he might turn around and eat you.
