You could also always skip any of the games, Brotherhood and Revelations for example, and just read a quick summary of the plot on Wikipedia or something if you're really in a rush to get to Black Flag. It's not the same as experiencing the games for yourself, but at least you'll understand the story as best you can without having played them. And if you don't really care about the story at all or don't pay attention to it, then you can pretty much start wherever you want.
But Black Flag is also better
Assassins Creed 2 is the best game in the series. ACBrotherhood adds multiplayer and builds on what AC2 accomplished so it's more of the same. ACRevelations adds basically nothing but a few new things here and there.
Assassins Creed 3 is highly underrated. it's a fantastic game and really changes up the formula.
Assassins Creed 4 is absolutely incredible and might be one of the best games yet. It has the classic Assassins Creed gameplay, but in addition to that an entire seperate game having to do with sailing around and getting into epic naval battles.
AC2 and/or brotherhood for improved Gameplay
AC Revelation...why was this made
AC3...no
AC4 a good mix from the original gameplay while still some what being an assassin and pirates!
