The easiest way to increase town wealth is increasing employment at any job, this increases the wealth a little, amounts vary for each industry. selling industry back to the towns is the best, i did this with food and forage, the better the monopoly the more it increases, i sold a whole monopoly once wealth increased equivalent to the value of industry but the next day it increased dramatically again.
The goods towns consume from the time you leave till you return is important, cement or medicine are both good for this with high profit items that towns consume rapidly, when a town buys cement it invests that 3.5k and sell it for say 4.5k they pocket the profit, so a variety of high profit goods that sell well for you and the town. Leather jackets and vests aren't as good the consumption rates aren't crazy, but fantastic product highly recommended towns buys loads of them without the prices dropping to low.
