With the arrival of 9-nine Episode 4, the series has also finally reached its episodic apex. Although it still leaves a certain amount of suspense at the end of this game, the complementary worldview and the linkage to the first three Episodes also essentially finish off the 9-nine series.

The focus on Noa Yuki, a key female character, is a radical departure from the previous episodes on the plot going, and the addition of the Meta element resolves all of the in-game suspense almost perfectly, leaving the plot logic largely intact. The game is worthy of its title as a final Episode of the 9-nine series, with its stunning music and twists and turns.

Of course, as I have seen with the previous episodes, the 9-nine series is not without its flaws, and they are obvious. The overabundance of secondary disease elements is a source of fascination for those who are good and a source of hate for those who are bad. The fight scenes are a little too childish, mostly due to the visual novel's performance effects. I think Episode 2 is the undisputed pinnacle of emotion that no other Episode can match.

In short, the quality of this game is definitely worth it. All you need to do for those who have already played the first three Episodes is enjoy a well-packed, well-written story.

I cannot believe we've already reached the end of this wonderful series. I have to admit whilst I couldn't wait for the episodes to get released while playing through the 9-Nine series, I still didn't want it to end. Unfortunately, I have to let go of it now. However, each game turned out to be memorable to me and was an experience I won't forget anytime soon. Anyway, I went in with high expectations for the finale episode and, luckily, it didn't let me down. As expected, this episode is where everything comes together — And to an end.

Please proceed reading this review with caution, as it contains heavy spoilers regarding episode 1-3. In that sense, playing the previous episodes before starting this one is highly recommended as the game itself spoils the happenings of the other games. Whilst episode 1-3 could have been seen as standalones, episode 4 works completely differently and assumes that the player completed the previous games as well.


9-Nine-:Episode 4 starts right away with a brief summary of episode 1-3. Now, that we know who the real villain is, jumping between the branches is mandatory to find out where and why the branches failed. Thus, this time it's Noa Yuuki's turn as the main heroine in this chapter. Admittedly, the reader didn't get to know much about her at all during the other games as she was always very mysterious in the other branches. Either way, it's noticeable that Kakeru Niimi needs to find out more about Nao in order to beat Iris.


I'm still amazed that with the multiple branches in the 9-Nine series I never had the feeling that it's too repetitive at all. Instead, with each new episode, the reader gets closer to the truth and now, the last chapter purely revolves around solving the main problem with Iris. However, nothing goes as expected and Kakeru has to overcome a lot of hardships. In addition to that, during the whole playthrough, I was on edge and the game even added plot twists here and there I couldn't see coming. It was a rollercoaster of emotions and the other episodes already taught me that nothing is at it seems in this series.

Nonetheless, I found 9-Nine-:Episode 4 is a satisfying end of the series and everything will finally come to an end. To be fair, with all the supernatural happenings and multiple branches along with the superpowers, I was worried about possible plot-holes as I couldn't imagine how the game would wrap up the series. However, to my surprise, the visual novel explained everything well which made my doubts disappear. I have to admit that this game was probably the most stressful entry for my emotions so far, however, I wouldn't dare to step into the spoiler territory.


So, the romance isn't missing here either. However, I feel like this entry focuses least on the romance compared to episode 1-3. To be honest, with this entry, I was more interested in how the story will turn out instead of Kakeru's relationship with Nao. However, the romance was well-executed nonetheless and with everything they went through together, I'd be surprised if they managed to not fall for each other. Anyway, the romance is something I found very special in this episode as it added a more emotional touch to the serious storyline and made me get more invested in the characters and happenings. As I already went through the love stories with the other girls, I was attached to every heroine. Luckily, Kakeru fits just well with any of the girls, even with the awkward but adorable Noa.


Whilst the other games implement a lot of light-hearted moments, this entry feels more serious than its predecessors. Of course, 9-Nine-:Episode 4 still has its light-hearted scenes, however, the focus of this episode is Iris and how to defeat her to finally reach a branch with a happy end. Either way, I liked that each entry becomes more and more serious with the increasing tension which kept me engaged until the end. The latter part of the visual novel also managed to surprise me, as it gets pretty dark here. Even more than before. So be prepared for a few shocking events.


So, the special feature here is that the player can jump between different branches. However, overall episode 4 is a kinetic novel as well as the other entries. So, if the player can jump to a different branch through a flowchart it's because the game wants them to. Other than that, the reader doesn't have any impact on the storyline, although they can decide which scenario they want to read through first, however, the order doesn't matter at all. Still, the branch had a grand purpose and made me feel like I actually could change the story and its happenings. Along with that, I could even look up a brief summary of each chapter from the previous games. This might be useful for those who forgot one or two events. In addition to that, the flowchart is available to check anytime during the playthrough so should the reader get confused they can reread it anytime.

That being said, there is only one possible end the player can reach. Although choices are technically implemented, there is only one decision the player can choose so they only have the purpose of increasing the immersion. Luckily, this indeed helped me with getting more invested in the game.


Along with the great storyline, 9-Nine-:Episode 4 even implements gorgeous character sprites and CGs. Like the previous games, each of them was stunning. Along with that, there are a lot of options available here as well such as selecting a font and much more. In that regard, although the reader already knows what to expect due to the predecessors I would like to specifically mention that the artwork and Japanese voice-acting is top-notch in this series and episode 4 didn't let me down either. Whilst animations are rather subtle here, they serve the purpose of increasing the immersion without being too overbearing.


During the previous episodes, I already knew the 9-Nine series will be unlike any other visual novel. And now, I can wholeheartedly recommend the series to any visual novel lover who appreciates a well-executed story. Even the last chapter turned out to be a delight and managed to wrap up everything well. Overall, the thing I adore about 9-Nine is that each episode builds upon another and just when I assumed that I figured everything out, the game manages to throw me off with plot twists I didn't expect at all. In addition to that, the romance is lovely and fits well into the happenings although the storyline is still noticeably in the foreground. That being said, do yourself a favor and play this game right away — anyone who enjoyed the previous episodes will absolutely love this entry as well.

The art style is really beautiful and the story seems interesting.., but for me, the best game was Episode 2. I had so much fun while I played and I love how it gives you the feeling of a classic VN game.

"Episode 4" would have one of the most cutest Steam header I've ever seen 10/10 and it would be nice if we would get a Booster Pack.. Steam Achievements would be really appreciated.

The max resolution is 1280x720, which means the quality is not that great. I don't mind if the game has only one route honestly, but it would be nice to have some alternatives. The best recommendation is buy it if you're into 9-nine-:Episodes.

This series is on the hype right now. Very good reviews are everywhere. I waited until the last episode was released and finally I was able to appreciate this masterpiece too. And... I agree with all the praise.
Each episode is better than the previous. The first episode as an introduction, does not accelerate quickly, but still it is excellent, makes you feel the excitement and the desire to quickly find out what will happen next. Then these emotions only intensify and peak in the fourth episode. No wonder the fourth episode is already 18th on vndb in just ONE YEAR after being released in Japanese. This is insane achievement.

Каждый следующий эпизод лучше прошлого. Первый эпизод как введение, разгоняется не очень быстро, но даже он отличный, заставляет чувствовать ажиотаж и желание побыстрее узнать, что же будет дальше. Затем эти эмоции только усиливаются и достигают пика в четвертом эпизоде. Не зря четвертый эпизод уже на ВОСЕМНАДЦАТОМ месте по vndb всего ЗА ОДИН ГОД после выхода на японском. Это упомрачительное достижение.

Finally we arrived at the final stretch of one of the Visual Novels that surprised me the most, i will talk about three topics: Story, characters and Visual/Soundtrack.

The story of episode 4 focus on Noa Yuuki and as well finish the plot of the series. We lost the only advantage we had against Iris and we are left in complete despair, this episode really focuses on how fragile the human being is and how the whole emotional burden affected Niimi to a level of breaking his spirit. Since the first route where we are recevied with an unxpected ending we really live hell on earth, by far the last episode has the most heavy sentimental burden and the way they work with this theme until the end suits very well with the story. We can't talk that we have a happy ending, we were destroyed and forced to turn into something we didn't want, for the sake of greater. And the fact that VN really shows a more "true" ending really ally brings a more serious tone to the series. This is complemented by the breaking of the fourth wall, which has its clues since the end of episode 3 where we (the player) are the nine, we have the overload and we are the partner of Niimi, and it is fun to think that since the episode 1 we have clues to it. (To be honest this was very criative, i think this was the first time that i saw something like that).

Sadly some explications about our power, about the villain and abou the way we use to finish the threat is a bit rushed which give some confusion, and the story really lacks a little about Yoichi, he was a bit superficial, would be great a little back story for us to understand a liitle more about his persona.

Because it is the final stretch, and the game in the series with the longest playing time, they used the time they had very well and made Yuuki Noa the most well-crafted girl in the series by far, her plot is due to a trauma she has , which resulted in her hiding her true self, and creating another Yuuki and using her shell to hide. Niimi's work involves creating intimacy with Yuuki and helping her to break that shell, bringing the real Yuuki back, who was almost lost.

About Niimi i can just say congratulations for him development, since the start they worked Niimi to show someone with human feelings, with desires, goals and regrets, and in this episode this way of develop him was explored to the maximum.
We see Niimi destroyed, we see him suffering to the point that his spirit is broken (Re: Zero feelings), he knew that to put an end to all this, he would have to change, and we see that, we see his anger, sadness and we see his personal feelings taking care of him. The fact is that Niimi will have to bear forever the weight of failure and defeat that he suffered, and even with his broken spirit he accepted it.

On the other hand, while Niimi and Yuuki are explored very well, again we have the problem of some characters being erased, especially for Sora and Kujo, i feel that in this episode they were only present as a greater emotional burden for Niimi, since they it doesn't really have a highlighted part, and you often feel they are there or not, it makes no difference. This is especially sad for Kujo as it is less developed of all the girls.

As great work has always been done in the background, it is simple but more polished. The Cgs are very well detailed and really increase our hype, but they were not as vivid as those in episode 3 being sincere.

And about the soundtracks...THEY ARE SIMPLY PERFECT. I really n found a timing error and the addition of the new soundtracks especially, for the middle and end of the game were excellent, by far the ones that captivated me the most. (I have been listening Mile Likelihood for about 3 days).

But about the series:
Besides some mistakes in episode 1 (poor kujo) and And niimi's lack of personality at the beginning of the series, it really is a well-made novel, it does not have a complex philosophy of life or anything like that, being sincere if you have read it for some time, you will notice that the direction of the story it's a bit of a cliché, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad, she was very well conducted, most of the cast really captivates you, and most importantly, they know how to convey their feelings very well, you can see the affection they had at the time of writing the story. Sometimes read something like that really warms you heart.

I approached this game extremely excited and also worried. I hyped it up so much in my head I was afraid it would never meet those expectations but I've never been happier to be wrong. The pacing is slow at times but enough to keep you going but it just edges and teases you. You keep wondering, whens the twist coming, whens the bad like the other episodes. The story leads you by the hand, blinding you with character and world building before throwing you off a mountain of a climax. Like the previous entries, one of the 4 main heroines is the star and Noa doesn't disappoint. Its rare that I can't pick a favorite girl in a VN but if I had too, it would be between Noa and Sora. I don't know if this is the last Episode (I suspect its not) but if so, Episode 4 is a very well done ending to this series.

Edit: Just read on Palette website there is another episode scheduled for release April 2021 in Japan. Hopefully it gets translated.

9-nine-:Episode 4 is all about tying up loose ends, saving everyone, and defeating evil. However, it’s not always that easy, which sparks some of the more emotional encounters, especially with some of the previous entries’ villains. The pacing was staggered, but I felt the narrative balanced the bulk of these beats wonderfully, which left me satisfied with the outcome. Episode 4 is a great conclusion to the series that only stumbles in the pacing of a few points of the narrative. Honestly, I enjoyed practically every second of it. It enhanced the memories made in the previous entries while building a new timeline of events to provide a unique experience to readers.

I’d highly advise that you play through the other chapters before this one. The previous entries could be played out of order, but I feel this requires you to play them to understand even the first hour of the game. I really glad to play it! I play all of them in 1 week!

9-Nine- is so criminally underrated its insane.

Episode 1 is easily the weakest but every episode afterward managed to surpass my expectations and ultimately led to this glorious piece of art. It may start "slow" but the ending was one of the coolest things I've experienced.
