Linux?
What about a Linux version? If it's just iortcw, I suppose it won't be a problem to compile Linux binaries.

I guess its possible. But I need someone to maintain the linux version. Can’t do that on my own.

I use this repository on Linux Mint:

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/realrtcw/

Works like a charm.

I guess there would need to be some "steam" customization. Pretty sure it's your Mod DB core at the heart.

Thank you. I will consider linux support in the post release updates!

Sweet,

Can't imagine why you couldn't just link directly to package repo.

I would gladly test it out on my old Steambox (old), Laptop (GTX), and computer (RTX) with debian.

Wonder if anyone games on Arch out there?

Native Linux support would be wonderful. Please, thank you! :darkangel:

I use Manjaro. Hopefully you aren't someone who gets mortally offended with the implication that Arch shares common DNA 😄
Would love a native Linux version. Used to play RTCW via ioWolf and Venom with Proton, but I noticed it wasn't as smooth lately. RealRtCW had the same issue so I just rolled with Windows.

Is there any progress on that? Thanks!

I was just about to create a thread on this, but I'll post i this one instead:
When the mod was released, I attempted to play via Proton. There was no sound, and mouse movement was extremely choppy. As there have been some updates since, I tried again. The mouse movement is now just as smooth as Windows, but still no sound.
Not sure what could cause that, if anyone figures it out please let me know!

EDIT: audio device was getting switched to one that doesn't exist. RealRTCW works perfectly on Linux via Proton!

Saw your edit.

Good to see it works with Proton!

Hopefully a native Linux install is coming.

About Linux... I have no real experience with this system. I never tried to compile realrtcw for it.
If anyone familiar with that and is willing to maintain linux build, contact me, and we may have this thing uploaded on Steam along with windows version.

I've gotten it to compile and run using the steam assets. I'm part of a open source project to build engine forks and such for Steam games. The script is here: https://github.com/luxtorpeda-dev/packages/blob/master/engines/realrtcw/build.sh

The only part that isn't setup is the steam integration, so this is using the non-steam version of the code. I may be able to help get a version of the game built for Linux for steam.

That would be awesome. Proton is a powerful tool, but of course native is always better (especially since a native version of iowolf runs on Linux)

Awesome!

I have compiled and run from the github link I posted. Ran great on Linux Mint 19.3.

I would be happy to test any Linux builds in steam. Which covers Debian-Ubuntu based distros.

I use Arch and I would be happy to volunteer time for testing.

Ryzen 3600 (for now)
128GB 3200Mhz DDR4
2TB Corsair MP600
GTX 1650 Super (RTX 3080 is on the way)
Kernel 5.8.14

I will be upgrading CPU and GPU in the next month or two - and once nvidia update their drivers I'll be able to upgrade to Kernel 5.9.x - but I won't be prepared to upgrade CPU until Kernel 5.10.x is out.

Just let me know if, when and how I can help!
