No more enemies to lovers we as a society have evolved past the need for enemies to lovers, now it's enemies AND lovers

Huge, complex, somehow has amazing action sequences?! choices I made 3 years ago in the first game came back to bite me in incredibly complex and satisfying ways, this game injected so much dopamine into my smooth little brain that I had to run around outside for a bit to chill out.

The only cons I can think of is that a) now I'm dying for the next 2 games to be released and b) every other piece of media is going to be ruined for me for a while because nothing else compares

Fallen Hero: Retribution is a masterpiece.

This game is huge, there is so much to explore and so many variations making each play-through unique and different. It builds on what was already an intriguing and interesting story in rebirth into something truly magnificent. The world building is rich and varied, there are mysteries lurking under the surface, clues and foreshadowing scattered throughout the story which makes replay a true treat.

It really shines when it comes to the characters. The entire cast is incredible and well fleshed out. No one feels shallow, they all have their secrets and motivations and building relationships with them (platonic or romantic!) is so rewarding.

I love this story so much. It beautiful and painful and fun. It made me laugh and cry and spend hours building conspiracy boards in my mind.

Worth every minute of the wait between games. This story is a masterpiece of interactive fiction. Read it. Seriously.

I've been waiting for this. It's a shame all of my saves from 2018 are named some things along the lines of:

But honestly, it is the best CoG/Hosted Games book out there. I've read my fair share of CoG books, none came even close to the quality of this one. It's not just the story, it's the writing, the characters, the personnality, the world building.

I started the first book, Fallen Hero: Rebirth, a few years ago; read it twice or thrice, liked it and moved on. I waited for Retribution, then forgot about it completely until I received an email from Hosted Games. It changed my view of the whole saga, it went from good to absolutely amazing. I cannot recommend it enough.

The story continues from the first book. The transition is fluid and it is a thrill to see how our previous choices really mattered, and keep at it. Our decisions truly are important and will impact a lot of things. You will face the consequences of your actions. The replayability is great, especially with the plethora of outcomes from the first book. There's a lot of changes and diverse flavors, some big, some as small as a couple of different words in a sentence; and it feels good.

The writing is beautiful, yet very easy to read and follow. Dialogues don't feel forced or out of place, descriptions don't drag on and are clear. There's humour, all kind of feels and emotions. It's taking you on a ride.

It is a trauma heavy story, this book even more so than the previous, so tread carefully is you're sensitive to such themes. Heavy themes are treated really well and with the seriousness they deserve. Our character is ours to build and define, there's a great freedom in how we choose to see ourself, in how we act and decide what we will become. We get to explore our flaws and act on it, or not.

Other characters are whole, fleshed out, ''real''. You get to truly discover them and build something with them. I've never liked side characters more than in this book. Each interaction keeps me asking for more, be they funny, profound or just plain argumentative. Humour and hurt are tied to each of them, we may choose to add ourselves in their life or stay away. You can choose to keep your distance from them most of the time if you would like so.

The world Fallen Hero is set in is consistent and each new discovery feels important. I don't usually care much for details about settings and timelines, this one is an exception. I want to know more. Boosts and mods are embedded with solid lore. The author made a lot of research to back up their world, it makes sense, it is good.

If you're here, you've probably read the first book. Go for it, do not hesitate another second. It is worth every cent.

The wait for book 3 is going to be painful
