There was a 'fix' though, if the host sends their save file to you and you replace yours, you can continue the game. The problem is, this will overwrite your save file and you'll also get all the hosts items and stats, etc.. So, not really a fix.
But yeah, this has been like that since the first game.
Host have the save file, and when players at host' server save their progress they just writing information about their inventory, stats etc. in host save file. All the games work like that.
What did you expect?
Pity some people replied negatively.
You title sounds like there is some kind of bad bug that can mess up your save.
