Should I buy this game? IGN gave it a 9 so I am starting to think this game is not good.

No I mean when IGN says a game is good, it's probably bad, if they say a game bad then it's probably good.
And no listening to IGN is not a great idea but I thought this was common knowledge :)

It is good, difficult enough to challenge yourself, long lasting and intricate maps/missions, coop multiplayer if needed (i tried it and it s very fun!)
Definitely a game to have in your library if you like soulslike and hardcore RPGs, this game is unforgiving, but will gift you a huge satisfaction.

It's a shame that people call Nioh a souls-like. I've seen plenty of people have a bad time with Nioh because they try to play it like it's Dark Souls. Nioh is amazing but you do need to cleanse your brain of Dark Souls and engage with Nioh on its terms.

People call Nioh a souls-like because that's what it is.
If they insist on playing it like they play Dark Souls, ignoring Nioh's combat mechanics, there's nothing we can do, man. 😕

Better combat is debatable.
It's definitely higher APM. I would say it's more complex.
Most bosses are fine until you get to the absolute final point in the game at the end of the last NG cycle.
There are far too many bosses, particularly humanoid ones, that are absolute cancer.
