It's weird how they are just regressing.
One being their money maker; Dead or Alive: Xtreme
and the other is Ninja Gaiden, which has been on hiatus since 2012 (or 2014 if you count the Spin-off Yaiba)
Completed wo long, it was a very very stripped down nioh. Didn't want to try my luck at ronin, because it's probably a stripped down wo long.
Smart and useful comment though dude.
I hope you understand companies don't just stick to one formula and go with it.
Same think with Toukiden... now they are doing Wild Hearts S
Someone forgot to say that to EA and all the sports games they release, Activision with CoD, Ubisoft with Assassin's Creed and so on!

tl;dr, I wrote a long summary on another thread in another koei game, but here's the 2 bulletins I'll copy-paste over.

Interpret that as one would, potential masses of mediocore releases incoming if they persist on multiple game releases annually.
- Another thing of interest spotted in the document pertains to Yosuke Hayashi. The Team Ninja veteran will resign from being a company director in June 2025.
So the producer for Nioh 1/2, Ninja Gaiden, and a bunch of zelda games (not involved with Wild Heart and Wo Long mess) is leaving.*Koei has released their franchise sales numbers in a pdf, page 23.

Edit: Link to said thread.
it actually had nothing to do with Nioh besides being a mission based ARPG with rng loot
not every game needs to have the exact same combat system, Wo Long's combat was different but still great. It did some things better than Nioh, especially the human fights which weren't boring stunlocks anymore. The loot was also much more satisfying and fun to engage with.
Rise of the ronin actually has more combat depth than Nioh, maybe slightly less than Nioh 2 but it's a much worse game imo. Combat depth is not everything about a game.
"Managing both growth potential and profitability
◆ Steps toward vision
- Key factor for mid to long-term growth: Success in AAA titles, new genres and new IPs
- Build structure that allows us to consistently create large-scale hit titles in-house
To Become the World's No 1"
Well... nothing about re-release or sequels =/
They'd sooner make a new IP that borrows mechanics from Nioh rather than continue that franchise. I'm fine with that. I didn't care for Nioh's story, and it's just the combat, mission structure and loot/customization that an easily be used in another IP.
I also haven't been keeping tabs on the people responsible for such elements, such as who the combat design lead was for the Nioh series, and whether or not they're still with the company or were head hunted by a rival. Could be the case that some key person just isn't there anymore, so they may consider an IP more or less dead until somebody decides they want to revisit. That's kinda like how the Devil May Cry and Dragon's Dogma series are at now, given Itsuno left Capcom. It's back in limbo.
