is it possible to remove a mod from a save?
I have found that once I save a game with a mod enabled, it is apparently permanently attached to that save.
Even if I remove all the items created by the mod, disable it, and then load and save the game, the new save still thinks the mod should be there. It complains about missing mods each time I open the game, even though everything is working fine.

Is there any way to actually remove a mod from a save, so that it stops complaining at me?

Hi Karma!

If you disable a mod and reload a save that previously used that mod, the game will still associate that save with that mod. It's part of the save data.
So, in other words, no. That stinks. Most games do not permanently wed you to a mod after the assets added by that mod have been removed.

It is hard to know if a missing mod would break the game or not. That's why there is that error. I understand how frustrating it may be, but we need to be sure that if the game breaks, the player will be aware why. However, for people like you, that know their mods, I've created a mod that disable the endless warning. Please test if it works in your case: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3014009001

Thank you for that @injto4ka! I test and then disable mods all the time, it will be nice to be able to shake off that loading message.

@injto4ka always thought you had that in place as an anticheat option for achievement purposes

That doesn't really make sense; mods don't disable achievements in the first place. Not even the cheat menu mod disables achievements. USING the cheat menu disables them, but having the mod installed and enabled doesn't.

We need an official statement on this cuz I had a ton of great quality of life mods that I turned of when hunting for harder achievements. Can u give me a link for a dev stating such a thing?

Go to the 2nd page of comments on the cheat menu mod to see the dev responding there regarding that specific mod. Which is an obvious extension to "no mods" disabling achievements.

There's also a comment from a dev in one of the threads here regarding mods in general not disabling achievements, but I'm far too lazy to go searching for it when it is something that is stupidly easy to confirm yourself.

I personally had the cheat menu mod installed when I earned every single achievement in the game. I just didn't actually USE the cheats. I did, however, use the superspeed key that the cheat mod enables. That function is not considered a cheat, therefore I earned achievements just fine.

well statements need to be backed by facts usually or at least having other people to concur, and the phrase mods in general not disabling achievements it is not good enough for me or others who want to reach 100% completion. Other games treat this in a very definitive way, use mods no achievements and deleting a mod removes everything from the save without a trace hopefully.
But I am probably done hunting achievements in this game anyway even for future updates I ll just enjoy playing them with my full collection of mods active.

Statements only need to be backed up by facts if you actually care to prove what you're saying.

I could not care less if 'random person on the internet' believes me or not. Especially when it's something they could verify themselves in like...one minute.

what I can say, that feeling about you being a douche finally got 100% confirmed.
What you could have done to treat this "conversation" better was not answering at all,
you basically send me to peruse the all the comments to a mod and then acting snarky about it ahaha.
Congratz you just became a "nobody" for this "random person on the internet".
Shows the character though calling a guy random after you actually got quite a bit of good tips from me or confirmations on stuff you weren't quite sure of. phh

I have no idea how you expect me to do better than that; you can't link to one specific comment in a mod comment section afaik.

And again, it would take you no more than one minute to find that comment given that I told you what page it is on and the fact that it is a comment by a dev means there is a bright yellow "Devloper" label on the comment to make it stand out quite clearly.

And it's rich having you claim MY answering you makes me a douche, when I actually provided you a direct route to the developer evidence you requested. Meanwhile, you basically called me a liar and said "prove it". So, personally, I think you're the one that was abrasive and rude. I have just been trying to be helpful.

And, as I already said, you could verify the whole concept on your own in a minute. All you have to do is save your game right before earning an achievement. Then enable a hundred mods, then load the game and get the achievement. Viola, you have proof that mods do not disable achievements.
(And, if you did NOT get the achievement, you could just reload the save you made before turning mods on with no harm done)

That's what I did when I was brand new to the game just to confirm it.

As someone who works on this game, I can confirm that using mods won't affect your achievements
