The amount of damage you need to kill a human is BS.
I know headshots are a thing, but aside of that they're terminators. Kinda ruins the immersion, when you need to hit 7-8 times with machete to kill a guy. Maybe it's only in the last difficulty though.

I do agree, but at the same time fighting humans is normally a doddle. Focus, headshot, single bullet (or two if they have a hat), repeat. Not sure making it them easier would be right decision.

You can get skill points to improve the damage of melee weapons as you progress, you also need scrap to repair your melee weapon

Dont worry it gets better, see it a bit like in RPG where you are weak first and be super Hero later and yeah you become very powerful. Its just that the Progression in this Game is a lot slower then in others and you have to get used to it. I personally think 180% that they did it right, even after 50 Hours i felt Progression where other Games allow the Player to become Super Hero after 3 Hours. If you do it like that Game becomes boring after 5 Hours. They did it the right Way trust me as they did with so many other Things in this Game.

There are far better weapons than the machete as well. At the bottom when it shows max damage, there's a couple that get up there close to it. I was using a Ripper's weapon for the majority of the game, the one that looks like a push mower's blade on a stick.

This.

There is progression in the game in the way of skill points when you level up to make things more manageable.

Thanks guys, i tried the mod that increased damage, so every enemy dies from 1-3 bullets, and it was way worse, so easy and boring even on highest difficulty. So i will play as it was intended.

I use baseball bat with saw blade attached and do one hit kills.
I also have the extra damage skill as well.

Focus + headshot with a LMG usually does the trick.
OP you mean like shooting a guy in the head with the best sniper rifle in the game, and it just knocks his little helmet off lol. Once you get better weapons they do go down pretty quick. I only use melee as a last resort though.

Fighting humans in DG can feel a lot like early on in a STALKER game in a bad way, with only the absurdly over generous slow motion ability to mitigate it.

Having to pepper a person with twelve body shots before they abruptly die is just ludicrous, especially in a setting such as this.

You are using weak weapons at the start is why, it goes from 1 (poor) to 5 (special military condition) and it will get easier later when you get your trust level up and get more weapons unlocked
