Zombies spawn way too fast on normal?
Some levels are fine, like West London, but certain other levels have the zombies spawn ridiculously fast. Like, they aren't just spawning around the corner and walking/running towards you, they just suddenly have some clump of 30 zombies jump down from some building or whatever. The zombies are often moving extremely fast and spinning around in circles. You can't possibly kill them faster than you can reload your gun... unless you're using a shotgun or flamethrower or something.
I'm cool with normal being more difficult, such as zombies moving faster, having more HP, and getting less money from them, but some levels seem like they're far more difficult than certain normal levels. What's with this? Is there a way to ensure that the levels I play are, oh, I dunno, playable? I play with other people and nobody can keep up with those absurd spawn rates. It makes me wonder if the server lied about the difficulty or something.

Depends on the map really. If its a community made map, there's nothing you can really do about it. Only the map maker can.

I for one had no trouble in normal when I played the game for the first time on official maps.
This was in 2009 when there were SO many bugs. 10 bloats would spawn at a time, without any mutators and the strongest weapon at low level was literally the knife.

If youre trying to take on everything yourself and you're in a team game, that's why it might be too hard. Your team is there for a reason you know ;)

The more players there are the more zombies that spawn per round, and the more spawn points are used. Usually they only spawn in groups of 5-6, but it could be from multiple spawns in a very close area which gets you 12-15

What is your lvl and the level of your friends? Normal shouldn't really be called "Normal" it should be called something like LVLS 1-4 or something. With a team of avg lvl 2 or above with everyone working together and different classes normal is fine.

It can often be where you are trying to hold out as well. If you're in close proximity to multiple spawn points, the ZEDs will tend to come at you much faster.

Take Hospital Horrors for example. If you hold on the roof. The game definitely goes a bit slower since there aren't many spawns nearby and most of the ZEDs will have to travel some distance to reach you:

But if you go hold in the lobby, now you're in close proximity to a lot of spawn points and the ZEDs can come at you more quickly and relentlessly making the waves faster and more intense:

Im sure your just not that good.
If you are playing on custom maps then it could be how its coded, but there is no need to exaggerate now many spawn (30 wtf?).
The recent that happen to me was on a custom map/wave 10/ etc zeds, Fleshpound, Siren shows up.

Know all your spawn points and stay well away from them and you should be fine. Too often new players find themselves standing directly below some sort of air vent from which zeds spawn and they are instanta killed. Find a spot on the map where at least nothing can come from behind and shoot, shoot, shoot!!!!

@spazbomb: I'm a level 3 medic or sharpshooter. Everyone else seems to be level 1-4, too (most of the time).
@PinkiePie: Certainly, I'm sure I'm nowhere near as good as the experienced players. I'm not sure if I'm exaggerating. Perhaps they don't literally spawn 30 at a time, but that's how it appears as far as I can tell. Perhaps my estimate is off since it's hard to tell what's even going on with so many of them everywhere, but they were just constantly flooding in and right in our faces. The zombies were spinning like crazy as they walked and there's more than you can possibly handle. My teammates are probably also amateurs, but they also had their hands full, so I don't think teamwork is really the issue.

I suppose we must be settling ourselves down in some really bad places then. I wasn't aware of the spawn point thing; I thought they maybe just spawn wherever players are.

Thanks for the answers/troubleshooting, everyone. I'll see if I can avoid these terrible spawn areas.

Sometimes the game just likes to take a dump on ya too. Spawns 2 fps and 4 sirens at the same spawn point while we are all bunched up = Ridiculous deathtrap even with acompetent team.

remember on manor when 10 sirens would jump over the wall and come up your side, insta death

the game actually has a very specific spawn pattern. crawlers always spawn in groups of 4, as do stalkers. if a bloat spawns, you can be sure theres a few clots and at least 1-3 gorefast. on wave i thin 8, you get 1 Fleshpound at a time, wave 9 you get 1 Fleshpound imediatly from start + others later on. wave 10 you get 2 off the start + 2 at a time for the rest of the match.

there are certain spawn points like crawler/stalker points and ones for everything else (vents, bridges, small corners) such as with west london, i assume you were camping in the tunnel like everyone else for some reason, there are crawler/stalker spawns on top of the bridge, plus a spawn right in front of the back entrance, plus the 2 on either side. so itll feel like you have 4x what you should. thats only because its a small map and the community decided to camp right in the heart of the spawners. if you were to use the original strategies from 2009 and use say, the police station, youd have 2 spawn locations instead of 8, or you could stay mobile which is actually most effective once you understand your group and the game.

Maybe it will help if you named the maps, and where you are holding in.

IIRC there is a maximum of 32 enemies at one time? Or how much is the maximum available?
Chomp Kitty 5. mar. 2013 kl. 3:44
The most likely explanation is that you're holding an area too close to a bunch of zed spawns, which will turn the area into a death trap even for the best of teams.

32 is the standard maximum I think. You can alter it through server settings but the engine has a hard time handling even small increases to that amount.
Bodger 5. mar. 2013 kl. 5:39
Spawning close by and in large numbers is one thing... possibly explained by custom settings. It's true that on some maps - even core maps - zeds will occasionally drop out of the sky, and if you turn a corner quickly you can see them doing it. The high movement speed of zeds is explainable, since we know that zeds move faster at the higher levels. Maybe the game(s) in question were on a high difficulty level, or a custom server.

"Spinning like crazy", though... that's weird. I have occasionally seen glitched behaviour that leaves a zed turning in place, but not while advancing as well. Sometimes they spawn facing away from you, but I wouldn't call it "spinning like crazy".

So... verify local content, set your server browser to 'normal' and try again?

Sounds like something ain't right.
